  1. TigerEyez13 Says:

Waiting on the OL and DL coaching hires.

  2. Lisa Says:

Completely unrelated, but the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) has reported that the Cleveland Browns are going after Saban.

  3. AuburnFish Says:

I would love to see Saban leave, but I doubt he will leave for the NFL. The money won’t be that different, and what makes Saban good is he has the best players. That won’t happen in the NFL, because everyone has good players. He tried that once before.

  4. JC in FLA Says:

They had a story on ESPN College Football Live last night about how Saban’s wife was saying he is depressed in a way since he feels no passion right now and cannot get motivated lately…they also mentioned the Browns and wondered if they were courting him….that WEASEL is having his wife do the dirty work !

  5. T-Dog Says:

Fish, the only thing about Saban is pride and a challenge, and the fact that he failed at his NFL shot at TB makes me think he might bite…he’s a Browns boy so he might have enough of the Bammer Nation and make the move.

  6. JC in FLA Says:

Kirby Smart would take over you think ?

  7. Spencer Lee Says:

I can totally see him leave for the NFL…..but the Browns?! Seriously? There is a big, big reason he’s in T’loosa now – his wife. She couldn’t be the big celeb in a place like Miami…a place loaded with celebrity types. She knew in T’loosa she would be the absolute queen of that town – hands down. If they went to Cleveland, it’s her, Drew Carey, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She can do a lot better than that. I’m talking Dallas people. THAT move would make perfect sense – Jerry Jones backing up the Brinks truck to their mansion, a very cool city to be virtual royalty in, ample resources to give it a go. Unfortunely the same inescapable fact sits in front of him like an 800 lbs gorrilla……Saban would have to be reminded EVERY team there has great players and in an even contest he’s a 50/50 proposition. If you hate to lose, the NFL can put you on suicide watch.

  8. Lisa Says:

    Here’s the article: http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-georgia-sports/2012/12/11/report-cleveland-browns-lure-saban-back-to-nfl/

  9. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Saban’s success in college football is not tied to schemes. Its a very simple formula that not everyone can mimic at college level –

Step 1] Get the best talent for your 2 and 3 deep at every position
Step 2] Run the practices methodically to get the perfect execution every time.
Step 3] Cut the losses (kids not performing) and reload with the next class of recruits.

This can not be implemented at NFL because –
1] All teams have same level of talent, give or take a couple difference makers
2] NFLPA will not allow the same level of control Saban has on his players.
3] Cutting players in NFL = paying out their contract, not the same as putting a greyshirt on them. Owners will not like it.

Having said that, history has told us that the ego of short men has been their downfall. So I won’t be surprised if he does go to NFL for another shot at glory.

  10. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

As a tall individual I must agree with MCT… Those shorter are headed to their downfall.

  11. Big Swoll Says:

Allright yall, time for a breath of fresh air in here. The way the Auburner crowd is falling over ourselves to keep mentioning Saban is distracting us from the task at hand, REBUILDING! So what if lil Nicky and his wife are the T’loosa(er) reality show-du-jour…. we are AUBURN, our coaches name is Malzahn! I wasnt even thrilled with the hire but Ima give it the chance and Ima go ALL IN!!
As for Dye, this actually made a lot of sense: “One thing I can tell your for sure about bringing in Gus Malzahn to run the Auburn football program is that there is not a single coach at the other Southeastern Conference programs that wanted to see that happen.
I believe Auburn can recruit offensive players who are as good as Oregon’s or any other school in the country that is running the type of offense that Gus has had success with on the college level. He has a great reputation for being an innovative offensive coach and I think the Tigers are in good shape on that side of the ball.”
He might need an attitude/ego adjustment, but the man still knows football and I feel there are some wisdom in his words.

On another tip, am I STILL unable to get a response on if Dameyune Craig would be a good fit on The Plains? Maybe I am beating a bead horse, but I just can’t see a better fit at the positions coach opening then him. Prolly as good or better recruiter than Double T was and certainly a better coach. As always, looking forward to seeing yalls posts, weather yall address my rantings in them or not :)

  12. Music City Tiger Says:

If Gus thought it was a good fit, he would have gone after Craig, that’s all I can say.

  13. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

I’d call him up for the qb coach position. Pretty good credentials.

  14. Spencer Lee Says:

Big Swoll I’d >love< to have Craig back as well for many reasons but Gus/Lashlee probably have the QB coach position filled between them – if not by name, then either or both would be de facto QB Coach(s). Not having a named QB coach frees up a coaching spot for another position that doesn't already have someone addressing it. In D-I you only have a certain number of coaches you can hire (not sure if they limit grad assistants or not).

MCT you came up with quite a gem, "…ego of short men will be their downfall." But in fairness I've seen my share of 6 footer plus guys that were eaten alive by ego/pride and we all know pride comes before the fall.

Big Swoll you hit on an interesting point re: the ability to recruit Oregon level offensive players. I see that potential as well but one thing that could hold us back on that development is whether we are truly spreading the ball around. If the read option is as limited as it was in 2011 (where the sequence was as simple as: 1) QB made the initial read on whether we were going to run it; and 2) if he was to throw it he looked at the primary receiver; 3) if primary receiver is covered – run for whatever you can get). In other words, there was no read progression to speak of. That was one explanation for Emory Blake having the lion's share of catches……that and he has excellent hands. If we CAN get a QB that runs through the pass options and makes decent decisions with the ball, the offense could put up some really nice numbers…if not, we become one deminsional – and we all know where that leads.

  15. Lisa Says:

I’m excited to see what happens in the next 2 years. I hope the Gus busts the gates WIDE OPEN. I think the teams he puts together are going to be really fun to watch!

  16. Walt Says:

For the Dameyune Craig comments… there is a possibility he’ll be on the Plains as WR coach.

  17. Spencer Lee Says:

Walt that would work for me. If anyone other than a former WR would understand the schematics of what the receivers have to do, it would be a former QB. As many of you know some assistants coach a position they didn’t play. And for you near old timers like me remember this – Galen Hall was a QB when he played at Penn State. Yes, THAT Galen Hall that was HC at UF. Try to picture that. :)

Lisa I agree, this ought to be very entertaining football coming up….Lord knows we didn’t have much of that lately.

  18. matt Says:

Music CIty Tiger (formerly michiana)… I never knew what your former name Michiana meant until I was driving from Chicago(where I live) to Cleveland this past weekend, somewhere around South Bend/Elkhart I saw a car place named Michiana Tire and something and I thought of your name, I assume its a combo of Michigan and Indiana…you must have been the only AU fan within a 50 mile radius of that place

  19. Big Swoll Says:

Walt……. that is SUPER NEWS! Time to get in touch with our inner-JLPacard: “MAKE IT SO”! Even tho I was more of a Kirk guy myself……….

  20. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

matt, not the only AU fan, but certainly a minority. Had a few colleagues at Whirlpool who were big AU fans (and grads).

  21. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Also, matt, at least you, unlike hillrya, did not equate Michiana to a girl’s name. :D

  22. Spencer Lee Says:

Guilty as charged here on the mistaken gender deal MCT but my mistaken identity was cleared up long ago. I was in good company with my errant judgment though and I know all is forgiven on that front by now. :)

So matt what’s the deal with you using all lower case on your name? A big fan of ee cummings? lol

  23. Spencer Lee Says:

Big Swollen you lost like Dennis Miller doing a stand up routine to a group of Portugese preschoolers…JL-Pacard? Clue me in bro. :)

  24. Spencer Lee Says:

Dadgummit…..I so loathe auto correct. S-W-O-L-L.

  25. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

MCT, if it’s all the same to you I would still like to think of it as a girl’s name.

  26. Music City Tiger Says:

Ha! All and everyone is forgiven!

By the way, ND campus is a part of Michiana.

  27. Walt Says:

Spencer, while not a Trekkie even I know the JL-Pacard would be Jean Luc Picard, the character played by Patrick Stewart.

  28. Mark Says:

Didn’t we used to assume hillrya was a dyslexic, or maybe just a poor typer, named Hillary?

  29. Spencer Lee Says:

Mark I’m guilty on that one too. He had to show us the nuance to his name – which is clever. I for one just don’t care. I post with my real name and even tell you folks where I live. I work for a public agency where my direct phone number and e-mail are listed on our website. Geez even my salary is public record. I’m an open book. I’ll leave the Mrs. and kids out of it but I’m as transparent as threadbare Bama National Champs t-shirt from 1973.

  30. hillrya Says:

Yeah, I remember the ol’ gender confusion days. Here I was thinking Michiana was a girl when EVERYBODY else thought I was a girl.

I have psuedo-personalities in my head for most posters here, and it’s funny when one of those personalities suddenly changes gender…

  31. Spencer Lee Says:

So true on the funny pary b/c I pictured Michiana as some good looking brunette that knew her football. lol Having met a decent number of ya’ll down through the years my intial image almost never fits the real thing. But who cares? We’re all part of the Auburner Family.

  32. Auburn Fish Says:

Just so you guys know, I am not really a fish. Hate to spoil it for you!

  33. Spencer Lee Says:

    LOL Fish!

  34. Lisa Says:

    I’m a dude named George.

  35. Walt Says:

Lisa, that’s hilarious. I’ve met Spencer, before. A few of you know me through Facebook. I’m also a pretty open book, though. I’ve commented on various other things I’ve done and posted elsewhere that make me pretty easy to find. And apparently I live about a half mile away from hillrya from discussions at the beginning of this year. We still need to get together and have a scotch and cigar, hillrya. I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten the nuance of that name, though.

  36. Spencer Lee Says:

Good one Lisa! I >almost< met you prior to or after the AU / UF game last year which would give me full confirmation of gender. But from every indication I'm willing to bet the house you don't have a Y chromosome…..plus I'm 99.9% sure we actually talked at some point that day (in addition to texts) and I don't recall you sounding like Bruce Willis or anything that effect. ;)

For anyone curious I can state Walt is a dude. lol

  37. Nick Says:

Oh well now I feel kind of lame because my name is just Nick.

  38. JC in FLA Says:

I am not the Messiah living in the sunshine state !

  39. T-Dog Says:

    I thought Miciana was a girl too…sorry. :(

Are Lisa and I the only chicks?

  40. JC in FLA Says:

    Hold on, let me check

  41. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    T-Dog is a girl?

Btw, for the new comers, have you seen Spencer’s Lutzie video on YouTube?

  42. AuburnFish Says:

I did, but we should re-link it just for fun

  43. Spencer Lee Says:

Oh good Lord…not that thing! hahaha I’ll need to keep the day job. The kids would starve if I had to dance for a living. lol

JC – good one! And T-Dog…I’ll have to see an authenticated pic before I buy you as a female. If memory serves Lisa is the undisputed Queen of The Auburner Family. :)

  44. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

This is where I begin chanting “post the video.”

  45. Spencer Lee Says:

    Here’s is where I hide behind a tree somewhere…. ;)

  46. Alan Says:

Sounds like the link must be posted.

  47. Lisa Says:

It’s good to be Queen! I actually say that in my office quite often.

  48. Spencer Lee Says:

I bet it is Lisa….I’m just a humble public servant (serf) in this kingdom. :)

As for the link, here is where my lack of techie experience actually comes in handy…I don’t know how to link or post that. [he said with a wry smile...betraying the deep dark secret that he might could figure it out if he had any interest in actually getting that few seconds of infamy on the Auburner.] :)

  49. AuburnFish Says:

So the word is Dameyune Craig will be in AU for reals. Announcement has not been made yet.

  50. will Says:

    I wish I had a cool name.
I’m thinking about changing it now.
Any suggestions, or do I have to post a video, or something, first?

Maybe I could just be “Silent Reader” since that’s mostly what I do here.

  51. Spencer Lee Says:

Will, if Karl Rove hasn’t trademarked it, YOU could be “The Architect.”

  52. Spencer Lee Says:

Good news Auburn Fish….or at least good hopeful news – I’ll take anything good right about now.

  53. T-Dog Says:

Yep, all girl…even had a baby 3.5 months ago, so I’m preeeetty sure. Maybe I need to change my name to T-Dogette…. :)

Lisa is queen, I’ll just be a girly minion.

  54. will Says:

Reports saying Craig is NOT coming to Auburn.

  55. Lisa Says:

Welcome to Motherhood T-Dog. I have a 4 year old. I barely remember the pre-kid days. Something about disposable income and lots of sleep, but it’s all foggy now. Enjoy it; there is NOTHING more entertaining than kids!

  56. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Tell tale sign of parenthood – When you get up at 7 am on a weekend and tell your friends, how you slept in till late in the morning.
It comes with the territory of parenting a 3 yr old ball of hyper energy!

  57. Spencer Lee Says:

I can chime in on this “kids” front….11 year old girl and 8 year old boy. They sleep fine but I celebrate the days they don’t break stuff around the house. :)

Will, sorry to hear that report. It would have been fun having him back. Alas, each respective side has to do what’s in their respective best interests. Maybe he wanted more $ than they were willing to part with…maybe Gus had someone in mind already…maybe he wanted less recruiting responsibilities? Who knows?

  58. T-dog Says:

Wow what a great little getting to know the peeps of the Auburner thread! Motherhood rocks so far. The boy loves football…mama needs a football scholarship!! :)

  59. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Set up a fieldgoal in the backyard. 3-5 hours a day and you will get your wish t-dog.

  60. JC in FLA Says:

Spencer, hug those kids a little tighter today….so heartbreaking at the Conn. tragedy… so upsetting. Pray for those poor families in their loss. 20 little Angels checked into Heaven yesterday !

  61. Lisa Says:

I know JC. I let my little guy stay up a little later to play with puzzles and read stories just so I could spend a little more time with him. 20 people had to go to sleep last night without tucking in their kids. Breaks my heart!

  62. Spencer Lee Says:

So true re: the tragedy in CT. I hugged them tighter yesterday…and today. Just tears your heart out….

  63. Big Swoll Says:

On again, off again…. bring # 16 home!
Spencer Lee: Sorry for the mix up, I was referencing the captain from the Star Trek “The Next Generation” series and his catch phrase from the show. Never watched it too much tho, however I did peep the origional and still occationally tune in if i here the disco-theremin-solo intro lolz! How about this action?
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x930vt_william-shatner-snl-skit-get-a-life_fun

And yes, let’s keep the families that lost so much in Conn. in our thoughts. This contry needs a serious attitude adjustment, it’s a damn shame.

  64. Spencer Lee Says:

Thanks for the clarification…Walt already educated me on the Next Gen reference. I watched the old show back when it was on originally…it was cool.

I also saw the Shatner skit on SNL…great stuff.

And I appreciate your sentiment Big Swoll – and everyone else that commented on the CT shooting. Truly evil is in this world….makes me sick for the bereaved.

  65. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Spencer, I have been in the process of building a mass murder database as part of my research, but I never thought I would see this. There is a lot we don’t know. These type of events are the reason why I am a criminologist. My field and myself need to do much more to prevent tragedies like this. We are just so far behind….

Themes we see include the fact that most mass killers are men, usually in there teens or twenties. Rural locations tend to see more of these, but that could be due to more surveillance in urban areas that can curve the incident. That’s all we know… Oh and powerful guns increase the number of victims and make events like this more feasible to the offender.

I would like to see in my lifetime a way we can predict these and hopefully prevent them.

  66. Spencer Lee Says:

JCMac, I truly commend your diligent efforts and clearly noble intentions. Criminology for me was a class I took in undergrad – and a very interesting one – but not a lifelong passion like economics/finance have been. So I admittedly come to tragedies like this from a different perspective. I hold no hope for preventing a given person from succombing to the deamons within them and unleashing their rage on a collection of innocent people. Going through my partial list of mass murders in my head I can see the links you’ve attached and they generally make sense…with the possible exception of urban/suburban/rural. Taking Chicago as a current case in point, the murder rate per 100k I would surmise to be higher than, say Raliegh/Durham. But in a city like Chicago the deaths would come a few at a time as opposed to this heinous scene in CT, so perhaps it makes the larger city seem more innocuous from a mortality standpoint.

But to me it all comes down to the heart. As long as we live in a fallen world where evil thoughts rule a person for any period of time, we will have horrible events such as we had last week. Not sure how we could ever 100% prevent attrocities such as this.

  67. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Well it really depends on how you define mass murder. Chicago is a human rights issue and has a lot to do with poverty. It is the most reliable predictor of homicide.

They have several gang shootings that exceed 4 victims… But are not considered mass murder by many. That definitional issue is one of the many issues in this. I consider those killings mass murder and record them but the media and the FBI does not respond to them as such.

As a social scientist I can’t quantify evil. There are variables at play here. My hope is that this is not beyond understanding.

  68. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

You are right higher levels of urbanity are linked to higher levels of homicide. But in regards to what has been deemed mass murder by the media and FBI rural areas seem to be the theme.

  69. JC in FLA Says:

That was the worst weekend in my life since 911 as far as grief. I made sure I told my mom, brothers and neice that I love them very much because you never know when we will be gone. Such heartbreak in Conn.

  70. Spencer Lee Says:

Is the poverty / homocide link international as well? Or just a US phenomenon? Because if that link goes beyond our borders then Haiti would be the murder capital of the Western Hemisphere.

I tend to believe a high murder rate is more correlated with a cultural overtone that devalues life itself.

  71. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Macro and micro-level studies show poverty to be an extremely reliable predictor. Haiti shows to have 34 homicides per 100,000 population, which is above the 22.9 regional average. They are also among the highest when it comes to domestic violence, 35% of women over the age of 15 report being victims.

In addition, since its infrastructure is in peril there are not reliable crime data. I am sure many crimes including homicide go unreported.

Lastly, gun availability matters. The U.S. has more guns than any other nation. If a firearm is involved in a violent conflict it is 40 more times likely to end with a homicide. It could very well be that there are more violent confrontations in Haiti, but since they have less guns than the U.S. the incident does not lead to a homicide, but only an aggravated assault.

Impoverished areas are more violent. It is a case of strain/stress, access to goods/services, and education. Yes there is a cultural overtone here, but how did we get there in the first place? What would make someone devalue life?

But, I don’t want to forget. Many of these massacres, motives are unclear and “our” variables don’t line up. That is why I and others are trying to figure it out.

  72. JC in FLA Says:

    http://gma.yahoo.com/video/news-26797925/newtown-conn-family-on-losing-child-in-shooting-31352814.html#crsl=%252Fvideo%252Fnews-26797925%252Fnewtown-conn-family-on-losing-child-in-shooting-31352814.html

Get your kleenex out. I am out of tears !

  73. T-Dog Says:

I agree with you Spence…what happened was not human, but an evil action/force that caused this event. Evil is all around us, and it seems the more we do to deifile good and devalue life, it gets the upper hand.

I loving my little guy a lot extra and cherishing those moments of cooing, slobbering and diaper changes a little more!

  74. Spencer Lee Says:

JCMac does the poverty / homocide link go back to prior generations? Namely the Great Depression Era? I think that was a time and place where the cultural differences between then and now would be evident – and different prevailing value on life comes in as well. Lord knows there was no shortage of people living in poverty then – and easy access to guns – but I don’t recall a pandemic of homocide back then with the exceptions of the mob, which were ran by wealthy and powerful familes.

[Side note: I find it fascinating that this thread started out as a highlight of Gus' new hires and it has evolved into a criminology blog by post 65 or so. I find it equally fascinating that no one has told us to take this chat to FB or some other forum....so thanks Mark] :)

As for your post JC…too painful to watch. My kids are about those kids’ ages. Can’t stand it.

  75. JC in FLA Says:

Understand Spence. I am drained from the weekend and my heart can’t take any more either !

  76. Brandon Says:

Days later, I still can’t seem to get this shooting out of my mind. I can’t even imagine what the families are going through. Things like this make me wish I believed in heaven and hell. Eternity in hell is not enough time for a sick bastard like this.

  77. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

If we call something evil, it is dismissive, we cannot study it, understand it, or prevent it. It is in itself a write off.

Spence, no doubt factors may vary by time and culture. The first Uniform Crime Report was published in January 1930. It included 400 cities. Since then there has been much improvement in reporting.

Poverty has changed too since the 1930s. It was dispersed throughout the nation. The measure or indicator of poverty has changed much since then. Now we have pockets of concentrated disadvantage. Many of these areas were at one point vibrant, but informal segregation where businesses and homeowners fled into the suburbs in the 1960s reeked havoc on these neighborhoods.

Some may suggest that the measure of income inequality may be a more reliable predictor of homicide during the Great Depression. Other structural correlates that may pass the test of time at a macro-level aggregate include education, single-parent-households, poverty, urbanity, population change, and population density.

If we can continue to figure out the structural correlates of crime we can make policy decisions that decrease crime.

I have seen models where you decrease poverty by 2% and see a 5% decrease in homicides at the census tract level.

I get what you are saying, there is an element of morality here. There is a distinct difference though in a kid performing a massacre at an elementary school and a kid who is brought up in a gangbanger culture and kills another during a dispute. I believe society can prevent the latter. I would like to think we someday may be able to prevent the mass shootings too.

I’ll say this, it is a really sad situation, what happened in CT. But don’t forget we lose about 10-15 gangbangers (kids) every week in Chicago violence. There is much work to do in both contexts.

  78. Spencer Lee Says:

JCMac – great topics to share over a Mama’s Love (or my favorite – Roast Beef and Cheese) @ Mama G’s. Or if I ever get down to Central FL again let’s meet up and shoot the breeze on this (no pun intended of course). Again, hats off to your efforts and active application of your studies to real world issues. I’ll keep my active application going on in my world as well. And WDE to one and all!

Brandon, I do believe in both. The punishment part will be adequate for this sick puppy.

  79. JC in FLA Says:

Right, final judgement Spence. I’m sure he is already looking for the a/c switch to turn down the intense heat !

  80. Spencer Lee Says:

    indeed…

  81. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

No argument here, I like these discussions… I’ll be moving again pretty soon.. Got to get a real job :)
    Either way, bless those families.

    And of course WDE.

  82. Spencer Lee Says:

Where you headed next Prof? :)

  83. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

I’m in the interview process. I’ll let you know when and where I land. I’m hoping something comes through before Christmas. But my family at The Auburner will be one of the firsts to know.

  84. Spencer Lee Says:

AUsome! Best wishes wherever you go next!

  85. Music City Tiger Says:

JCMaC thanks for calling a spade a spade. It is human tendency to look for solace in the age old Evil vs Good discussion, but its time to look at the actual reasons to try and stop/reduce such horrible events. And your research will go a long way in fixing these problems with the society.

  86. Big Swoll Says:

I remember when the “super gangs” started to really hit the road and migrate out of Cali and Chi-town. When it was just minority kikds or ultra-poor white kids, people ignored it or made excuses as to why these kids and even grown peoples somehow “deserved” it. Now that our media is attempting to flush America’s morals down the drain and promoting the most hyper-violent/sexual/materialistic hybryd’s of “entertainment” and the economy is on the skids, the rest of the nation is strating to get the picture. Let’s stand tall and together. ALL Americans and citizens of the world are “entitled” to dignity, safety and opportunity!
    WAR EAGLE!

  87. Spencer Lee Says:

I’m in favor of those entitlements Big Swoll.

  88. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Props to Chizik on his donation. He is no doubt a great man and good person.

  89. Spencer Lee Says:

I saw that today as well….class act by a class guy!

  90. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

    Any more coaching positions filled?

News is scarce here in the the Kanawha Valley.

  91. Spencer Lee Says:

Word is there are 2 likely scenarios – either a hire or 2 over the next day or so OR nothing until the Coaches Convention in January. The latter event is an interviewing/hiring frenzy that takes place the same time each year. If I was a betting man I’d bet we won’t hear much for a while – then the slate will be full by the close of the Convention. Unfortunately there is a lot of recruiting work to do and you’d like to have a full staff hitting the road until the dead period…..but it is what it is.

  92. Walt Says:

I’m still hearing a good chance that Coach Rocker comes back. But we wouldn’t know anything about that until the end of the NFL season. And props to getting the nation’s #1 JUCO RB to sign with us, today. We needed to fill a hole, there. It’s amazing that even with as bad as we were this year, Mason still ran for 1,000 yards. Should be a good combo of RBs in the backfield, this year.

  93. Auburn Fish Says:

I really want Reuben Foster. Heard he lit it up in the All-Star game. We could use a strong LB

  94. Big Swoll Says:

Anyone else recall what happened when we got a JUCO number one at their position rated player named Cam? Worked out ok last time!

  95. Auburn Fish Says:

JB Grimes hired as O-line coach. I am not familiar with him, but I hear he’s good.

  96. Spencer Lee Says:

I’ve heard the same about Grimes…who is of no relation to outgoing O Line coach Jeff Grimes.

As for Rocker that ship – in my opinion – sailed when we filled the D Coordinator spot with Ellis Johnson. Would love to be wrong but highly doubt it.

Big Swoll we did just fine with a certain JUCO RB we picked up in 2000 as well…Rudi Johnson. About as good of a one and done as we’ve ever had at that position.

  97. T-Dog Says:

Big probs on the JUCO RB…we need some help there and I’d like to see another one or two recruited as well. We need a good hoss of a RB aka Ronnie Brown/Tate style to pound down the field.

  98. JC in FLA Says:

    Rudi…he was a force !

  99. Spencer Lee Says:

Big probs as in grades? I haven’t kept up with that situation…

Oh and I just set someone up for the obligatory “100″ post. You’re welcome. :)

Who will it be? JCMac? Brandon? Big Swoll? will? T-Dog? JC in FLA? Auburn Fish? matt? Mark? Mark’s mom? :)

  100. Lisa Says:

    100! Hooray for me!

  101. AuburnFish Says:

And Lisa is in for the win!!

  102. Ft Worth John Says:

I love it when I open up the Auburner and the post # is higher than the last time. This one was on 92 for too long.

  103. Ft Worth John Says:

And why is the site on Eastern time?

  104. Ft Worth John Says:

Sorry, just trying to ratchet up the number of posts in case today is the last day we get to post.

  105. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

    Mayans…

  106. Spencer Lee Says:

Congrats to Lisa! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN! :)

Ft. Worth John – good question. Mark?

p.s. I wonder how the Incans are feeling about now….a little dissed don’t you think? Mayans getting plenty of pop culture mentions and they get – well, Machu Pichu. That’s it. lol

  107. JC in FLA Says:

Somebody just told me that it is Friday in Australia and their world has not ended so guess we might be ok ? I wonder if the Mayans thought about the daylight savings time effect ?
So many questions, so little time !

  108. Mark Says:

    Testing. Testing. Check. Check.

  109. Mark Says:

Cool. We’re now on central time.

You can no longer commit crimes and then use the time stamp on your Auburner comment as an alibi.

  110. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

… or who ever was in charge of the calender thought -> i have reached 1000 years into the calendar, time for Thirsty Thursday!

And that was the first recorded project to fall victim to procrastination.

  111. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

I’m in eastern time… Rabble rabble rabble!

  112. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Auburn is in central time! Rabble on JCMac. :p

  113. Spencer Lee Says:

    Good call MCT! :)

And thanks for nothing Mark! :( lol

  114. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

    rabble…

  115. Ft Worth John Says:

According to my sources Rodney Garner just hired as D Line Coach.

  116. Ft Worth John Says:

    And Asst HC.

  117. Walt Says:

The Rodney Garner hire is correct. And with his hire, no more Coach Rock, I guess. Well, I’m more than happy to have Coach Garner on the Plains! His recruiting ability could help us shore up our D class and bring some of the decommits back into the fold.

  118. Spencer Lee Says:

Wow…didn’t think we would ever see Rodney Garner back on the Plains. He’s a heck of a recruiter – building up talent bases at AU, UT and UGA. The only knock I heard was he was rumered to be pushing the envelop as a recruiter back when he was with us. But then again, in comparison to how cut throat it is now his methods back then might be a perfect fit for today. No one could question his results on bringing in players. What I’m not as familiar with is how adept he is at teaching the position. We’ll see.

    WDE regardless!

  119. JC in FLA Says:

The future is getting very bright…I gotta buy sunglasses !

  120. T-Dog Says:

I knew the Mayans were b.s.ing us…now if we had WON the Iron Bowl, I might be more inclined to believe this “end of days” nonsense.

I wonder what made Garner come back? He’d been at UGA for a while. It will be nice to get some more quality GA recruits from there, and should make the UGA game even more intense! Our D staff is lining up pretty nicely. I’m close to letting out a happy “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!” noise…close, but not yet….

  121. Spencer Lee Says:

Go ahead T-Dog, get your “EEEEEEEEEEEEEE” on! :)

  122. Spencer Lee Says:

Here’s something I’d like to get the Auburner Family’s take on…of the previous teams that lost to SEC teams in the BCS run that’s ongoing – would you say ND is the weakest opponent among that group?

  123. Music City Tiger Says:

    Happy Birthday, Spencer!

  124. Spencer Lee Says:

    Thanks MCT! I’m 1/2 way to 90! :)

  125. Music City Tiger Says:

    Isn’t that the new 35? ;)

  126. Spencer Lee Says:

HAHAHAHAA!!! Don’t I wish! :) I still get around well for a middle aged white dude. Still playing pickup basketball games with old college players 10 to 15 years my junior. I’m not what I once was but they don’t know that. lol

  127. JC in FLA Says:

    Say, isn’t today Festivus ?

  128. Alan Says:

Should we start airing grievances now, if it is?

  129. JC in FLA Says:

Alan, Mr. Kruger must wrestle Frank Costanza in the feats of strength !

  130. Alan Says:

Frank Costanza might ought to be hired as one of Auburn’s strength coaches.

  131. JC in FLA Says:

    SERENITY NOW !!

  132. Big Swoll Says:

Spencer Lee, I think the Okie team that was used to cheat Tubbs AU squad out of a BCS championship game appearance was in some respects “stronger” as in they could have beat this ND squad. But I think ND has a better shot at beating bammer than they would have.

  133. JCMac (SF) (ABD) Says:

Best Christmas present…… A new Auburner Banner…. With a remote control helicopter.

  134. Music City Tiger Says:

Merry Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza / Happy Holidays to all!

  135. Walt Says:

Merry Christmas, everyone! And welcome two new Tigers (one player, one coach). Devonte Danzey, nation’s #1 JUCO offensive guard signed with us, today (three years to play three), and Melvin Smith, formerly Mississippi State’s DB coach, has agreed to take the same job at Auburn.

  136. Spencer Lee Says:

Interesting take Big Swoll on OU in 2004. They had Adrian Peterson but that USC team was loaded with college talent. This ND team appears to have a D good coaching and nothing else. I give them little chance at all.

  137. Spencer Lee Says:

A new Auburner banner AND a remote control helicopter JCMac? You must have been a really good boy this year bro! :)

  138. JC in FLA Says:

Melvin Smith for CB coach was hired? Huh, guess he did good for Miss St and article claims him to be a good recruiter…thoughts?

  139. Walt Says:

Considering Miss St had a Thorpe Award winner this year, and they’ve been pretty successful with takeaways the past few years, I’m going to lean towards this being a very good hire.

  140. Spencer Lee Says:

    I ditto Walt’s take…
