Misplaced priorities. Also, Reuben Foster should be made a poster child for teaching safe sex education. Dude has a 4 year old daughter at 18!!!
February 5th, 2013 at 11:27 am
One man sees the stars and asks, “Why?”
Another man, and maybe his brother, see Marilyn Monroe and ask, “Why not?”
I see Reuben Foster’s tattoo and his Alabama committment and ask, “WTF?”
February 5th, 2013 at 11:30 am
Wow. Excellent point, Mark. Priorities are definitely an issue.
February 5th, 2013 at 11:46 am
Personally I’m glad Reuben is not going to be at Auburn. I want players who want to play for Auburn because it is Auburn, not because a particular coach is there. He is a Prima Donna and will fit in very well at the other school across the state.
February 5th, 2013 at 11:56 am
I don’t know R Foster, but his actions seem to be consistent with Lisa’s description. That being said, I think there is a high likelihood that he will do something spectacular that would be very embarrassing to AU and that will probably go largely unnoticed at that other school.
February 5th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
Like every elite athlete in HS they have been told how great they are since they were little boys…when they get to college they are all of a sudden no longer the big fish in the small pond. His ego will take a hit when it’s hard to get on the field but at that point he’ll either develop a bad attitude or decide he needs to step it up if he’s going to see the field. Meanwhile there’s a 5 year old autistic boy who now has the rest of his life ahead of him. How THAT little fellow turns out is simply more important to me (being the father of 2 autistic kids). Foster will have a free education, room, board and celebrity (assuming he makes the grades and doesn’t get hurt….in which he’ll have nothing). This little 5 year old boy had celebrity status for an unwanted reason. Of course you cite al.com which should be retitled ual.com anyway.
February 5th, 2013 at 10:23 pm
Exactly. Thanks Mark. But as they say sweet home Alabama.
February 6th, 2013 at 6:46 am
Spencer very well put. Wonder how many”reporters are falling head over heels to get the FIRST! with regards to interviewing that family for all the wrong reasons.
February 6th, 2013 at 8:39 am
Well, in getting my OWN priorities out of whack… Auburn is having a GREAT signing day, so far. Especially with flipping 5* DE Elijah Daniel from Ole Miss and picking up Carl Lawson to go with him. Supposedly Lawson told a recruiting analyst that 5* DT Montravious Adams will sign with Auburn as well, but we’ll find out for sure in about 7 minutes after I post this. Go get ‘em Gustav!
February 6th, 2013 at 8:46 am
Good point as well to you MCT on many in the media’s desire to “get the scoop” for all the wrong reasons. There’s still a lot of truth to the old media adage, “if it bleeds, it leads.”
Walt, interesting stuff – speaks well of the staff to be able to come in on very short notice and do more than just keep afloat.
February 6th, 2013 at 8:52 am
And BOOOOOOM comes Montravious Adams! WOW, what a DL class! Two 5* DEs, and a 5* DT. Now if only we can pull in the 5* DB Alexander.
February 6th, 2013 at 10:14 am
Looking good! I hope we can coach these young men up!
February 6th, 2013 at 11:22 am
Great class, and I’m thoroughly impressed with the job these coaches have done during a transition year. Top 10 (top-10 “ish” depending on the ranking service) and addressing key needs….VERY excited for these new guys!!!
I must confess though (re: Spencer), as much as I hate the fanfare and the drama and the building-up of these guys…I am as guilty as anybody because I cannot stop reading and following all these recruits….it’s sad, really, because I know it’s the people like me who drive this craziness. Oh well, it’s my vice. It does make me especially appreciate no frills guys like Lawson.
I don’t know if today is over-the-top good because it’s coming against the backdrop of the worst season ever, or if it’s truly a great day in its own right. Whatever it is…definitely a fantastic day for Auburn football!
February 6th, 2013 at 2:28 pm
Hey, don’t get me wrong – I love to see our Tigers succeed in ANYTHING (including recruiting) but gone are the days of me spending the time and energy needed to know the top guys by name, city, height, weight and time in the 40.
I see nothing but positives from this staff based on their long reputations for bringing in players – and from what they were able to pull off in 8 weeks. Like Lisa I’m just hoping they can develop the kids as well as they courted them.
February 6th, 2013 at 4:35 pm
The 40 times is what I find an interesting stat.
Am I to assume that a player with fastest 40 yard time will be the fastest person on the field? Some people would be hampered by the pads more than others.
Same goes for the other measurements they take during the course of the year and in the NFL combine.
Why not make these players do all those activities in full football gear? And why not have them run 5 miles and then have them run the 40 yard dash again? It matters how fast the player runs in the fourth quarter with the game on line as much as in the first quarter, right? :D
February 6th, 2013 at 5:20 pm
Good point again MCT. The best WR in the history of football (in mine and many other peoples’ opinions) was Jerry Rice (for you younger guys – Google him). He had a pedestrian time in the 40 but somehow he always found a way to get open AND if he was being chased he miraculously was able to run away from guys that had better times in the 40′s.
As for the post 5 mile run times, there are some linemen you can time with a sundial at that point. ;)
February 6th, 2013 at 6:52 pm
Whooooooo!! WAR EAGLE YALL!!!!!!! Lookie lookie, her come the mighty AU Tigers set to return to prominence with a dynamite recruiting class. The new coaches and recruits should also be able to jump up the juice (natural energy, not PEDs!) factor of the current roster as well. I agree with the posts that state how a fast 40 time with no pads and no one trying to tackle the runner could produce deceitful speed expectations. And I also thank Mr. Spencer Lee for the trip down memory lane regarding Rice (couldn’t stand him as a 49 & other, was ok with him as a Raider tho) and his gifts. I recall reading an interview with Rice an a college football preview WAY back in the day where he basically stated that although he broke many records at his small Black college, the QB who was heaving the ball his way was a much better and more complete football player than he (Rice) was. But back then the NFL really wasnt interested in Black QB’s. Seems crazy that it was just over 20 years ago that the thought of a Black QB in the NFL was by-in-large unheard of. Crazy and sad.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:06 pm
Big Swoll, in today’s world, Georgia Southern’s Tracy Ham would have been at some BCS school and then making millions in the NFL. That man had a CANNON for an arm and some of the shiftiest feet I’ve ever seen. But he was too short to be an NFL QB at the time, and was before “dual threat” was a thing. Especially coming out of an option “Hambone” offense (this was back when Paul Johnson was perfecting his version of the triple option as OC for Erk Russell). Tracy went on to become a CFL Hall of Famer. I wish someone like Tracy could have been in today’s NFL.
And for further fun… Pat Dye wanted Tracy to be a DB. I can’t imagine what a wishbone offense would have been like with Tracy as QB and Bo and Brent in the backfield. It would have been amazing.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:57 am
Rivals says # 8 class….of course we saw the last few yrs of great classes and we got bupkis ! Like Lisa says, gotta coach em up !
I was watching Chizik on ESPN with the recruiting guru’s and he is a class act with all positive comments on Malzahn and Auburn. Too bad things didn’t work out with CGC. Hey, some coaches are not meant to be the head master right ?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:43 am
Umm…can I say how much I love Auburn? I mean, seriously, cause the pictures I saw of Cam last night cheering in the student section just made me grin so wide!! I mean, how many other students can say they cheered on their team to victory with a fellow student who is also a multi-millionaire?? Way to go Cam!!! Humble and a true Auburn man!!
February 7th, 2013 at 12:19 pm
Something about Cam makes Auburn rise to its full potential…
By the way as my new name suggests, what are some good eats and things to do in the Memphis area for those in the know?
February 7th, 2013 at 3:07 pm
Big Swoll, Rice was referring to Willie “Satellite” Toten. That would be the $1,000 answer in Jeopardy. [Spencer takes a bow] :)
ditto on the Cam take…that was AUsome :)
February 7th, 2013 at 4:58 pm
JCMac, not sure about Memphis, but if you ever hop over to Nashville, let me know and we can meet up.
That reminds me, when was the last Auburner meetup? When is the next one?
February 7th, 2013 at 8:48 pm
Walt, I feel ya, but there was Tarkington & Kapp, Flutie and a few others even back then eh? Thanks for the info about it, will google and see if there is highlights of Ham.
Spencer Lee hope you hit the Daily Double on Satellite my friend! He was pretty BA eh? Hmm, Not being in the for a long while, I guess I didn’t realize how much of a bias al.com has. Man that was out of hand. To the point of looking unprofessional. And I also heard that the airwaves were clean there for now, no Finebaum or whatever his name is?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:11 pm
MCT the last Auburner meet up was at Mike and Ed’s BBQ 2 years ago. (Of course I take every chance I can to meet up with my Auburner peeps…Mark, Gaines, Walt, Thomas, Lane, JCMac and Will all fall under that category.)
Translation, it has been far too long since the last one. Need to do something about that.
Big Swoll I would have bet IT ALL in Double Jeopardy if the category was Sports Trivia. I’m all over that. :)
JCMac, Memphis is known for their “dry rub” BBQ and the Mecca for that is a place called Rendezvous…it’s in a dicey part of town though so you’ll get great BBQ at a place called Corky’s. Does anyone see a BBQ theme to this post yet? lol Congrats and best wishes on your next stop. Be safe out there buddy.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:13 pm
Oh, forgot to touch on your observation Big Swoll…indeed Finebaum is off the B’ham local airwaves (JOX radio). But there are 2 distinct black linings to this otherwise light puffy cloud…..it’s only temporary (90 days) and he’s still on sattelite radio). :(
February 7th, 2013 at 9:38 pm
I would like to go to A-day this year on the 20th… It would be cool to meet up with the gang then…. This time we should wear name tags though.
February 8th, 2013 at 12:01 am
I’d love to make it to A – Day but I have a wedding in Mgy @ 2:00 so unless you guys hang out big time after the game it would be tough to get up with any of you (except Walt) :)
February 8th, 2013 at 9:17 am
We’re going to Aday/Toomer’s Rolling. We’re meeting some other ol’ college buddies up there and making a day of it. Warning if any of you are coming from waaay out of town, hotels are already filling/filled up according to a few of my out of towner pals. So if you’re going, go ahead and plan now.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:11 am
We will be at the beach that weekend. Part of me hates that I will miss it, the other part of me just wants to remember them the way they were.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:24 am
I hear ya Lisa. Not sure if any of you read this already or not, but a great read…got me a little misty eyed. http://www.collegeandmagnolia.com/2013/2/4/3950886/toomers-corner-why-it-matters-to-me
February 8th, 2013 at 11:32 pm
Spencer Lee, you are a scholar and a gentleman! I guess a lil break from that goofball is better than no break. Who does he think he is to instigate such nonsense?
Walt, looked up Ham my man……. WOW, what a talent. Reminded me of guys like Tommy Frazier, Darrien Hagan, Jamelle Holloway and others. Players people tabbed as glorified RBs but still buried opponents with their arms to the tune of multiple National Championships. Come to think of it, those were all Big 8 guys no less eh? I know there have been others as well. Really enjoyed the youtube footage of him in action. And what a career in the CFL, he’s a true legend there.
February 10th, 2013 at 8:52 pm
The standards for both scholar and gentleman just took a hit, but I’ll take the kind word Big Swoll. :)
As for the aforementioned goofball, as I have noted previously, I’ve been Finebaum free for years and I’m a better man for it.
February 10th, 2013 at 9:11 pm
Who is the Finebaum person in which you speak?
February 11th, 2013 at 11:03 am
Paul – (noun) – pompous jerk that facilitates a lowest common demoninator hate fest on radio known as the Paul Finebaum Show.

OH MY !
February 12th, 2013 at 12:09 am
Interesting…but not likely to catch on in Gulf Shores… ;)
February 12th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
Armed robbery allegations in T’loosa…allegedly 4 football players involved including a highly publicized last minute flip from AU to UAT – Russellville native Brent Calloway (you can Google the interesting details of his recruitment at your leisure).
Unlike what passes for media these days, I will note these are allegations and all parties are innocent until proven guilty. Maybe this has hit al.com by now…or maybe not.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
good riddance… at least it will free up some roster space…I believe calloway was the only one of the four not charged with armed robbery…he’s also the least promising prospect of the 4 on the field, he’s never going to play at rb or lb.. hopefully for his sake he’s able to stay out of jail and transfer to a sunbelt school
February 12th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
matt you hit on a salient topic – IF all the players Saben signed qualified he was going to be 12 over the max….which means now only 8 players need to be shown the door (via the onset of medical problems, homesickness, grade problems, or whatever it takes to run them off). It’s good to be the king where roster management isn’t a topic of discussion on places like al.com and the state’s newspapers.
You’re also spot on with the likely destination for Calloway – Sun Belt schools (along wth JUCO) seem to be the place to go if you’ve had disciplinary issues in the past.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:28 pm
That woman seems TRAITOROUS!
February 12th, 2013 at 11:19 pm
I’ll give her a pass. At the end of the day she’s an AU grad with a “mixed” relationship. I’ve had the same for 13 years……but you’d never catch me in a houndstooth bikini. Lol
February 12th, 2013 at 11:34 pm
That is a YouTube video of spencer I would rather not see.
February 13th, 2013 at 7:54 am
I just realized something… tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. And we haven’t suggested any new cards! We’ve been slacking, this year.
February 13th, 2013 at 9:20 am
Maybe it’s a sign we’re getting older Walt. Which happens to be one of the reasons we don’t have date requests going to the Miss Auburn candidates anymore. Not many single guys on here anymore…and no married guys with a death wish. lol
February 13th, 2013 at 9:37 am
Spencer, I hope to never catch you in any bikini, let alone a houndstooth one!
February 13th, 2013 at 9:41 am
Spencer, its a combination of what you said (Old, committed, not single guys) and the fact that Mark is in the phase of being a dad to a toddler that we don’t see more of the artwork and creativity that he is famous for. :)
February 13th, 2013 at 9:44 am
It’s still sad to see a tradition like that go away. If I had thought about it before today I would have set about making some, myself.
February 13th, 2013 at 9:48 am
Y’all will still get the V-day cards… worked on them last night. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:15 am
To the roster!
February 13th, 2013 at 10:21 am
Ok, so I got…
“Could you Grant me just one wish?”
“I’m a Fisher for your love.”
“We’re building a house of love just like if I were a Mason” (that one’s not that good at all, but I wanted to try to do something with Tre La Soul).
“I love you more than Chick-fil-A” (with picture of Cassanova McKinzy)
“I love you a Tunde”
“Diamonds are forever” (Jordan Diamond)
“I’m burning for you” (Tyler Nero. Get it? I certainly hope so)
Some of those I doubt there are pictures of, especially in action. But oh well.
Could also go with “I’ll stay committed to you through the toughest of times” and put pictures of Jeremy Johnson, Carl Lawson, and some of the other recruits that stuck with us.
February 13th, 2013 at 1:21 pm
On the Gus Bus of Love
Shakespeare in Love
I want to Garner Your Love
And my fave, if said just right with a lot of cheese: DAAAmeyun, Gurl You’re Fine!
February 13th, 2013 at 2:34 pm
Kudos to the creative types – Walt and T-Dog! And MCT, the only prospects of me being in a bikini would have as a prerequisite an accurate shot from a trankquilizer gun. :)
p.s. For the record Walt, I got all your references. :)
February 13th, 2013 at 2:38 pm
p.s. As an FYI for the over-the-top UAT fans – for the time being any photo ops with Harvey Updyke will require a trip to Opelika.

Parole Tide Y’all!
February 13th, 2013 at 3:57 pm
In this case, Parole Violation Tide….thus the trip to the Lee County slammer for Updyke.
February 13th, 2013 at 5:48 pm
How abouts “Lutz stay together sweetheart!”
February 13th, 2013 at 7:23 pm
Wakka wakka wakka!!!!!!!!
February 13th, 2013 at 11:21 pm
I’ve got to do at least one creepy one just as every year.
After we get done I’ll be wearing your Garners.
Baby you’ll always fill up my Gus Bus.
Ok I did two creepy ones….
February 14th, 2013 at 1:42 am
Happy Valentine’s Day to the Auburner Family! :)
I didn’t have any suggestions for the first time in memory. Oh well you guys picked up my slack (no pun on the former AU QB by the way). :)
