Here they are.

  1. Walt Says:

Wow. Congrats, Mark, these are some of the best in years. Especially the Petrino one. Amazing work!

  2. Ashley Says:

Please don’t ever stop these. It’s been one of my favorite things about Valentines day for, what, 7 years now? I even printed them and gave them out one of the years I was at Auburn.

  3. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    Love the Lashlee one!! :)

  4. T-Dog Says:

LOL Petrino! Awesome. Happy VDay everyone!

  5. Mark Says:

Thanks to Walt, the cards found their way to EDSBS. Thanks!

  6. Walt Says:

I think Spencer posts a link to those almost every year. I seem to recall it last year, or at some other point.

  7. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Yeah, he does. The Auburner is a much appreciated site over there.

  8. Spencer Lee Says:

Bravo Oh Fearless Leader! Well done Mark…enjoyed them all and the Patrino one is a true gem!!! Honorable mention to the Gus one. Nice. :)

  9. Lisa Says:

I’m so mad I spent my $3 on a card for the hubby. I could have printed one for free from theauburner!

  10. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I love theauburner. Good job Mark.

  11. Spencer Lee Says:

LOL Lisa……which one would have you gone with? (and I guess I’m presuming he’s an AU guy)

  12. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

So, Cam gets serenaded in class while Barkley gets mugged in T’loosa!

  13. Lisa Says:

I would have gone with the “I love you almost as much as I hate Bama” card. Hubby is a GA Tech guy, but he loves Auburn too. We share a hatred for UGA as well.

  14. T-Dog Says:

Did you see these pics of Foster asleep and then what some “crafty” fans have done with them? My fave is pg 3 Weekend At Rueben’s gif.

    http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/p/39913461/Rueben-Foster—–student-of-the-week.aspx

  15. Spencer Lee Says:

    T-Dog……THAT was freakin H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has become a trite expression but I literally LOL’ed this one…at the office no less! :)

MCT….didn’t hear about the Cam serenade. Did see he was playing Intramural b’ball (the one thing I will have had in common with him during our respective time on the Plains). Could you imagine the thoughts of the guy who has to guard him? (“Ummmm….can I be, like ANY other position today?” or “Man, if he gets hurt I’m gonna have the Panther Mafia on my @ss!”) :)

  16. Spencer Lee Says:

Lisa – good call on the card. :)

  17. Big Swoll Says:

Oh man! So much hilarity, so many to choose from! Gots to go with the Fast Times and Saved By The Bell shoops tho…. High School all the way!

  18. Spencer Lee Says:

Re: the Fast Times @ Ridgemont High: couldn’t you picture Mr. Hand looking over at Foster asleep and saying, “now just what in the hell do you think you are doing Mr. Foster?!! We are all here together…that makes this OUR time. You can’t sleep on OUR time Mr. Foster. Has anyone ever told you that?!”

    LOL

  19. Nick Says:

Can we talk about Lashlee’s expression/posture on The Auburner’s top-of-the-page banner? Has this been discussed elsewhere? I know the kid’s not done too much yet but that right there is worth a kudos. No idea what he was doing, but great shot.

  20. Walt Says:

Nick, it’s even better with the mustache added for the V-Day card.

  21. Spencer Lee Says:

Looks to me like he focusing his glare just right before the laser beams shoot out of his eyes…. lol

Or the expression a dog will give you if he hears something he doesn’t recognize (for you old timers this would be the RCA Dog) :)

  22. Music City Tiger Says:

Bucket list item #28 (or was it #27?) – Meet the Legend – Mark “TheAuburner” Paden! CHECK!

  23. Mark Says:

Yep. The rest of you missed out on an impromptu Auburner meetup in Nashville earlier tonight.

  24. Spencer Lee Says:

Dang….where was the prior notice? ;) I couldn’t have made it anyway. Glad ya’ll could meet. I need to get a bucket list out for a bunch of you folks – MCT you’re on there! :)

  25. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

I am honored, Spencer! I want to meet up with rest of you guys too.

  26. Walt Says:

I’ve met Spencer, but none of the rest of you. I live in Auburn, now, so whenever people are in time, I’m around.

  27. Spencer Lee Says:

Thanks MCT. I don’t get to Nashville often but I’ll keep you in mind the next time I do. :)

  28. Mark Says:

    Apparently, the Rhett Lashlee’s weird head tilt wasn’t just for the one picture. It’s constant;

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj3DQeAh7EY

  29. Spencer Lee Says:

maybe he needs a chiropractor……I know a good one right there in the AUB. :)

  30. Tdog Says:

I’m in Montgomery so I’m close…will be in AU for Aday and the following weekend for the run. I will be drinking beers at the bar formerly known as Finks (quioxtes now?) after both events.

Have any of you been to Ma Fias in opelika? I highly suggest it next time you go…YUM!!!!

  31. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I’ll be heading up to A-day with my buddy who went to ECU… He has never experienced anything with the SEC atmosphere… We’ve got to hit up some awesome food spots… But a beer or 2 at quixiotes with any auburners would be delightful…

  32. Spencer Lee Says:

T-dog…small world. Other than my grad school time @ Auburn, I spent my first 40 years in Mgy….and still work there. Are you a Mgy native or transplant?

  33. Walt Says:

Sounds like the beginnings of a good Auburner meet up. I’ll probably be in front of the Nichols Center prior to the game; I’m willing to bet we’ll have an ROTC tailgate. I’m game for a meet up afterwards.

  34. T-Dog Says:

Cool beans! Not sure what time we’ll be getting there, but we’ll be there for sure during the Toomer’s Last Roll shindig. The hubs and I are meeting some of our old college buddies there as well.

I’m a transplant…family is all in B’ham area, but we moved to Millbrook after graduation and now live in Pville. Been here for about 11 years and it’s home now. Too many Bammers in the B’ham area for me. lol

  35. Spencer Lee Says:

Totally understand in the B’ham thing….it’s essentially Tuscaloosa East. Told the Mrs. long ago “Not interested in living there….period.”

  36. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

The 2013 home schedule is as follows:

    Aug. 31 | Washington State

    Sept. 7 | Arkansas State

    Sept. 14 | Mississippi State

    Oct. 5 | Ole Miss

    Oct. 12 | Western Carolina

    Oct. 26 | Florida Atlantic

    Nov. 16 | Georgia

    Nov. 30 | Alabama

  37. Spencer Lee Says:

Not sure if you folks are NFL fans as well but Ontario McCalleb smoked the 40 yard dash. The preliminary number was 4.27 but I think it got adjusted up a little (hand time to machine). As rediculously fast as this is there’s Bo’s 4.12 was run with about 35 more pounds than Ontario’s. :)

  38. Ft Worth John Says:

I’m watching Bo’s 30for30 again for about the 12th time and I still get goose bumps. The 80 yard TD against UF was as spectacular a run as you will ever see. The circumstances under which it happened make it even better. Fla was about to score but they fumbled the ball at the one yd line and it went into the endzone and out of bounds. Auburn gets the ball at the 20 and Bo goes 80 on the very next play. There is line from David Housel about when Bo goes over the top against uat being the greatest single moment in AU Football history. Hard to argue against it. My line has always been that Bo went over the top and he took us all with him.
BTW The book on Auburn’s unclaimed National Championships is great.

  39. Spencer Lee Says:

Just for fun….the AU player that stripped the ball from the UF RB that was about to go in the South end zone – #49 Nat Ceazer. :). Great, great game.

  40. Big Swoll Says:

FtWorthJohn, whats his about the unclaimed NC’s receiving print treatment via book? Hmmmmm, VERY interested! Do they mention the 1912 years and all?

  41. Ft Worth John Says:

The book is by attorney Michael Skotnicki and in it he makes the case for Auburn to claim National Championships for 1910, 1913, 1914, 1958, 1983, 1993 and 2004. He makes an excellent case for each year. He points out how many other schools have retroactively claimed championships including uat who added 5 additional ones in 1986. the website is http://www.auburnsunclaimed.com

  42. Ft Worth John Says:

He ends each chapter about specific years with “The ______ Auburn team is deserving of the title of a national champion and that championship should be claimed by Auburn’s Athletic Department with a banner in Jordan-Hare Stadium.” Skotnicki is an attorney and he presents each season as if presenting evidence to a jury. I believe that in most, if not all, of these cases the jury would side with him.

  43. Spencer Lee Says:

Depends on the makeup of that jury Ft. Worth John. Heheheee

  44. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I say claim them only if media organizations such as ESPN agree. It looks weak when uat claims like 15 and media recognizes only 2/3rds.

  45. Spencer Lee Says:

ESPN only goes back to 1979…and never has bothered to get in the discussion of who really deserved NC’s from previous years. So by that reasoning 1910, 1913, 1914 and 1958 would be non-starters….no matter how worthy each of those were.

If we were to start claiming NC’s postumously we would inevitably be indicted by uat fans as merely jealous and willing to make up past glory that isn’t real (as if their postumousl claims were any better). After making fun of them for past fabrications I would look like a hypocrite. (Although in fairness Mike Donahue put some great teams together and the `58 team was probably better than the one in `57 if one can believe the guys that played for both…which I do).

  46. Spencer Lee Says:

p.s. Mark check your e-mail…I have something for you.

  47. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

1913 is the one which bothers me the most. NCAA accepts that as a NC for Auburn, but Auburn does not. This year is the centennial year for that year. We all should let our Athletics Department know that they should at least acknowledge that.

Spencer, maybe you have connections to get this started. :p

  48. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Spencer, this is a question for you (others can try to answer, but I am sure Spencer will get this right anyways) – when was the last time, both AU Football and AU Basketball were so bad at the same time?

  49. Big Swoll Says:

Thanks for the info and the website! And I say we look ultra judiciously into each claim he makes, if it fits, lets commence “The Auburner truth commission” and get the ball rolling towards recognizing any NC titles we should rightfully claim for The Plains. And to HECK with whatever the delusional bammer fans have to say about us!

  50. Ft Worth John Says:

You are right Big Swoll. I suggest everyone read the book (the evidence) before casting your vote. I personally didn’t like the idea and was very skeptical before I read the book. Now I say let’s get on with it. The author makes a good case for adding 1913, 1983 and 1993 this year since it falls on the anniversary. Part of his point is that the hard work and effort that those teams put has been recognized by outsiders as outstanding and National Champion worthy – shouldn’t their own University also recognize them as so? I vote yes. I DO NOT MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON WHAT THE FOLKS FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STATE THINK.

  51. Spencer Lee Says:

MCT, thanks for the vote of confidence in my AU sports trivia chops but I will eschew the easy route (by cheating using the internet) and say with confidence – the last time AU hoops and football were both this bad would have to be at least in the 1940′s. 2008 was a lackluster football team (first losing season since `99) but Jeff Lebo’s 2008 team was pretty good. 1991-92 was down in football but we were competitive under Tommie Joe Eagles those years…his last year was a bust but by then Terry Bowden was rolling. That takes you back to `81, but while Dye’s first team was 5-6 it bore NO resemblance to this past year’s group. That `81 team was outmanned but never out hit or out hustled. They went toe to toe with even the best teams.

So you then have to go to 1953 to find a historically bad AU football team but AU’s winningest b’ball coach ever (Joel Eaves) was winning 68% of his games back then. As bad as we were on the football field in the 40′s I think you’ll find the answer there…or the 30′s. If no answer then….we might be looking at a first.

p.s. For what it’s worth I worked several years with Red Phillips (All-American End and captain of AU’s `57 team) and he had the greatest regard for Eaves. He naturally respected Shug…as did everyone else, but Eaves was his favorite. Just thought I would throw that in as a personal aside.

On the NC’s – you’re right Ft. Worth John. It is silly of me to care what the other side of the state thinks. It’s a fools errand to curry favor with them. I doubt seriosuly that Jay Jacobs would permit any official recognition of prior uncrowned champs…but the cases are compelling.

  52. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Not that we did not know already, but this article points out the main reason for Auburn’s dismal performance last year –
    link

  53. matt Says:

read an article breaking down the 1913 championship contenders on a pretty cool website called tiptop25.com— not sure if AU deserves the NC for that year after reading the article– but I don’t see anything wroing claiming one from that year either– we would have claimed it long ago

  54. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

matt, 100 years from now, people will be confused how Alabama played for MNC after losing to Texas A&M with two losses. When you start comparing teams based on perceived weaknesses of their schedules you get what we have with current BCS.
And TeamX beat Team Y who beat Team Z, so Team X > Team Z only works in Mathematics, not in sports most of the time.

  55. Walt Says:

MCT, a better example would have been 2011 with Alabama getting the rematch, but I see your point.

  56. Spencer Lee Says:

MCT….interesting read indeed. matt, I’ll check out the tiptop25 later….it’s way late and my work is done for the night. :)

  57. Big Swoll Says:

I have the same situations occur in my sport, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Actually there are no official rankings systems so what we have now is the garbage situation of the ufc, the sports biggest promotion, arbitrarily deciding who advances and who falls based on the whims of the heads of the organization. The best argument that is put forth on their behalf is usually “They are making matches that they think will sell the maximum amount of ppv (pay-per-view), therefore maximizing the companies profits”. But that argument is full of holes because there have been MASSIVE public discontent with the promotion and their matchmaking which has subsequently led to MUCH lower profits for the company (the paying public voting with their wallets). So in reality it seems like that argument is basically a smoke screen which allows a bunch of ego-maniac hacks who never fought themselves to treat athletes like toys as they advance their faves, stall out whomever is on the “outs” with the company and manipulate peoples careers. Kinda like our BCS cartel eh?

  58. Walt Says:

On another note… Happy Birthday, Mark!

  59. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    Happy birthday fellow Piscean!

  60. Spencer Lee Says:

I echo Walt here – Happy b’day Mark! :) You and my son are exactly 20 years apart.

Big Swoll, excellent analogy re: MMA promotion/ranking v. BCS. Just follow the money. Sometimes it will mirror common sense and sometimes it won’t. For the powers that be, the money IS the common sense. So if an interesting 8-4 Florida team is eligible for the Orange Bowl while an 11-1 “outsider” from the midwest is also eligible – guess who gets the invite?

  61. Music City Tiger Says:

One of my friends is a blogger on sbnation for MMA, he says at least it makes sense for UFC to promote PPV fights via ranking as that is their main source of income, but for BCS the main source of income is tv ads.

  62. Big Swoll Says:

Spencer Lee- You are spot on in regards to the BCS, but in the ufc’s case I believe its much more sinister. At least what the BCS does…. hmmmm, how to put this….. the BCS says its all about the purity of the sport and crowning a true #1. In reality it’s about money and favoring whatever conference/region participants represent. However the ufc pretty much sets the table themselves. So their questionable actions on one hand are technically “about the money” because up until the emergence of Bellator’s deal with Spike! network and the new World Series Of Fighting being picked up by CBS sports networks they were the closest thing to a monopoly in American sports. Everything they do is for the benefit of their brand (on the surface). But with the way they treat their athletes and the manner in which dana white conducts himself in public clearly demonstrates that the ufc if fueled by personal agendas of those at the top of the promotion. They really have ruined many careers for scant reasons other than they decided they didn’t “like” an athlete. For example, the way they make not only exceptions, but encourage the use of PEDs by certain athletes, the fact that some athletes competing on their cards make less than 10 and sometimes even less than 5 grand per-fight. How in the world is an athlete expected to support themselves (or a family), train full time, then advance in a sport when they are making 10-30 thou a year, and that IF they actually get fights from the org once they are signed? I really think their “about the money” excuses are a mask because they already have the lions share of the US market. They realize that their profits will be astronomical regardless of what they do so they run the promotion like a playground instead of a legitimate organization. And yup, even though Fla was pretty dynamic at times this year, it’s obvious the BCS HATES Boise State!

Music City Tiger- The ufc now says they are adopting an “official ranking system”, but they are still making matches, even championship ones, based on their own personal whims. I agree that the majority of their profits used to come from ppv sales, but I doubt that is still the case, especially with their falling ppv buy numbers. I think the ufc makes the majority of their $ from their Fox network deal and corporate sponsors. Thats followed by ppv #s. Event gates and merchandise being the multi million dollar gravy on top.

Sorry for my rantings yall, but you can see why I prefer the ma scene in Japan. Its more likely I can obtain $ and compete for championships based on my accomplishments or abilities as opposed to what a promoter might feel about me personally.

  63. Spencer Lee Says:

Hang on…..I just caught on that Big Swoll is an MMA participant not just a fan. Big Swoll I nominate you as the Official Bad @ss of The Auburner! You guys are tough as nails. You have my respect. :). I’m not much of a fighter. I’ve got the body of an aging baseball guy (which is appropriate). lol

In a different matter altogether I took my daughter to the AU game tonight. Had to look hard for silver linings there. Bo and Josh Bynes were in the house. That was cool. The action on the court was tough to watch most of the time.

  64. Big Swoll Says:

Thanks Spencer Lee…. but I only advocate for violence in competition….. if I am getting paid! lolz Still better to be at an Auburn game and catch a loss than be a bammer supporter that wins every game, musta been a fun atmosphere anyways. WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. Big Swoll Says:

P.S. I bet a former Baseballer has a heckuva K.O. punch if needed. Yall aint got that fluid swing and pitch for nathan! :)

  66. Ft Worth John Says:

This just in – Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete. http://sports.espn.go.com/sportsnation/feature/index?page=greatestofalltime#top

    (and to steal a line)
In related other obvious news; grass is green, water is wet and God is good.

  67. Big Swoll Says:

Ft Worth John, Im down for that, especially from a purely athletic standpoint. But Id have to consider Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owens, Nolan Ryan, Jackie Joyner Kersey and of course Ali on that list as well. Im sure they were considered so theres no real “loser”….. but I like the old school! Bo is one of a kind and until someone comes along to set a new standard, the standard is his……..

  68. Spencer Lee Says:

LOL on my K.O. punch Big Swoll! :) My brother would still have had one @ 46 but I would have to rely on that fluid swing of a baseball bat to KO anybody now. :)

I’m in full agreement with Bo with consideration for Dave Winfield – the only person ever drafted by 4 teams in three different sports – MLB, NBA, NFL and ABA. ESPN had him as their # 3 all time athlete in 2004. Still Bo is in a class by himself.

  69. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

ESPN should have held the voting for #2 in that category. Was a waste of time to hold any competition with Bo in it. :D

  70. Ft Worth John Says:

Ali was listed in the group and I believe Bo went head to head with him and won by a huge margin. The only other real challenger to Bo would have been Secretariat. But he had trouble with the curve ball too.

  71. Big Swoll Says:

Ft Worth John….. lolz! But hed make a HECK of a lead off runner…… :)

  72. Spencer Lee Says:

I don’t know Big Swoll….Secritariat would have had world class speed but I couldn’t picture that big ole beast STOPPING at a given base…which wouldn’t have mattered for 1st and home but good golly stealing 2nd would involve a throw to left field to tag the horse out. heheee

  73. Big Swoll Says:

    lolz!

  74. Lisa Says:

Anybody else have a mental picture of SNL’s Super Fans based off the last couple of posts? Daaaaa BO!

  75. Big Swoll Says:

Proud to be in that category, thanks for the lolz Lisa!

  76. Spencer Lee Says:

Must admit I’m out of the loop on SNL…..apart from the occasional skit posted on hulu I never see the show anymore. I was loyal from Belushi/Ackroyd through Eddie Murphy. Sporatic for the next 10 years and now, pretty much out.

  77. Big Swoll Says:

    Da Bears!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=769A4mUY7g0

  78. Spencer Lee Says:

    I remember that classic!

  79. Jason Says:

Q: Do you think it’s funny being arrested?

    A: Roll Tide!

    http://www.wjhg.com/home/headlines/32-Arrested-in-Miramar-Beach-After-House-Party-Bust-197359411.html

Not that I was never guilty of underage drinking but we knew to keep things below a certain threshold or party at a remote enough location that it didn’t matter.

  80. Spencer Lee Says:

I never drank but I’d like to think if I had AND I got busted I would leave Auburn out of it.

On a MUCH brighter note – everybody join me in wishing Music City Tiger a very happy birthday! :)

  81. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Have drank, will probably do tonight, but won’t embarrass my Alma Mater because of that!

Thanks for the birthday wish Spencer!

  82. Spencer Lee Says:

You got it bro! All the best to you and yours! :)

  83. Lisa Says:

I don’t always get arrested; but when I do, I scream Roll Tide.
    Stay classy Tide fans!

  84. Walt Says:

Well a happy birthday to MCT!

  85. Spencer Lee Says:

    good one Lisa…. ;)

  86. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    Thanks Walt!

    Excellent Lisa!

  87. Big Swoll Says:

    Happy belated MCT!!!!!!!

  88. Music City Tiger Says:

    Thanks Big Swoll!

  89. Spencer Lee Says:

Anybody doing the Mud Run in Auburn on April 6th? This is the one sponsored by the AU Marine ROTC unit. It’s the 4th year of the event…I did the first one but had to miss the lst two. Great cause – Wounded Warrior Project. I should have some work buddies joining in but wondered if any of the Auburner Family would be getting down and dirty with me. Hehehe

  90. Walt Says:

Alas, Spencer, I will not be around for that one. My job has me off for the spring ROTC FTX that weekend. However, I am planning on doing the “Finish on the 50″ event on the 27th. Not sure yet on whether I’ll just be doing the 10k or attempt the half marathon, though.

  91. Spencer Lee Says:

Do the 1/2…I’d bet you’re in good enough shape and you’ll feel good about going the longest distance. Alas I won’t be able to make that one. :(

  92. Spencer Lee Says:

BTW…I know some of you folks aren’t “basketball people” but for those that are, consider this…

The SEC’s reputation in hoops is so bad that the SEC Tournement Champ is a 12th seed. And if not for recent SEC convert Missouri we would be looking at a 2 team field – the aforementioned Akbars and a 3 seed UF who is 0-6 this year in games decided by less than 10 points. Iconic Kentucky did not even make the field of 68 (nor should have they…UK stunk out loud away from Rupp – especially after their best player went down for the year). This MAY be the weakest SEC season in my lifetime…and I’m 45. Yet despite this historic underachievement for the conference we managed all of 3 W’s in league play. Wow.

  93. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Spencer, don’t forget Kentucky lost in the first round of NIT last night to become the first ever win by Robert Morris in NIT!!

  94. T-Dog Says:

Oh, mud run! Too bad, I’ll be in AU two weeks in a row so I’m out for that. I did hear they’re going to do early packet pickup in Montgomery for the Finish/50 run. Yay! I won’t have to leave at the buttcrack of dawn.

  95. T-Dog Says:

Oh, and the trees will be cut down the 23rd, so I’ll see them on the 20th, but for the start of the run they’ll be gone…it’s going to be so weird….

  96. Spencer Lee Says:

Good point MCT on the KY debacle…and reflective of SEC hoops this year
