Temporary triangle wire system to replace Toomer’s Trees

My people call this a ‘delta connected system’. Will this make Auburn the #1 school in ‘wire poles‘?

  1. Walt Says:

I’m planning on walking up there the day they’re removing the trees and getting some pictures. I’m sure it’ll be crowded, though.

  2. Lisa Says:

We will be at the beach for A day, but we will be passing through Auburn on the 22nd going home. I’m so glad I (and my 4 year old Son) will get to see the trees one more time.

  3. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

I guess they had no other choice than go with the “delta connected system”, “Y connected system” would have required a pole right in the middle of the section. :)

  4. Mark Says:

From a “root tree” system to a “root three” system.

  5. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    Ha! Geek Alert!! :p

  6. JCMac (Soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Come on engineers y’all can do better than that.

  7. T-Dog Says:

Sigh…I know it’s a solution…not one that’s pretty or snazzy but a solution. This whole thing just still makes me sick and pissed and I don’t even want to hide that. It’s going to be a sad month of April…. :(

  8. Spencer Lee Says:

The engineering stuff sailed over my head so fast I could barely see the vapor trail as it flew by…

  9. Lisa Says:

I think they should string up an effigy of updyke and allow us to throw rocks at it rather than toilet paper.

  10. Big Swoll Says:

Allz I know is that I have heard The Loveliest Village On The Plains abounds with wonderful nature, especially trees. Lets hope this tragedy inspires humans, especially the Auburn Fam to be better stewards of the wonderful world that God almighty has gifted us with.

  11. Spencer Lee Says:

    @ Lisa – LOL!

    @Big Swoll – agreed

  12. T-Dog Says:

Lisa, I agree. I’m just at the point of sickness by having to take the “higher road” and not be vocally angry over all this. Not only did he kill the trees, he’s been wasting tax dollars with all his delays while he frolicks around and gets treated like royalty with free tickets and trips to Bammer games. I kinda want to drive 30 minutes over to Elmore County and Chiz-heckle him when he walks into the courthouse. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! But I will refrain from such actions, but will continue to wish hemroids on him…cause I’m classy like that. ;)

  13. Lisa Says:

Agreed T-Dog! I hope his prison garb is ORANGE!

  14. Spencer Lee Says:

……with blue trim, and a # 2 on the back along with a big “NEWTON” :)

(which would immediately bring a challenge from the ACLU on grounds of cruel and unusual punishment – and they would win…but it would be worth it to have him in that for a few hours. :)

  15. Big Swoll Says:

Orange jumpsuit………. I am familiar with them (now married with a baby tho) but never realized I was taking my War Eagle devotion to the extreme! lolz

  16. Jason Says:

The design is a delta? Wye, I’m currently electric about the capacity of this transformation to end resistance and get everybody amped up!

EE humor aside, I can’t imagine this is going to be a great experience compared to what we’ve been use to over the years but momentum is important. Taking a few years off would risk ending the tradition.

  17. Big Swoll Says:

I will say this: We have been confronted with the irony that our beloved trees are in peril, yet we have not focused on the fact that we delight in covering the trees in TP, essentially covering them in other dead trees. I am all for tradition, but just since we are now about to embark on the Mad Scientists light speed jump to blazing fast offense, as opposed to our beloved and traditional “Ground and Pound’ (slipping in my MMA references where I can!), I say lets start a new tradition of planting a tree every home game!
P.S. Jason, thats funny as heck!

  18. Spencer Lee Says:

I’d be content with planting an opposing QB a few times each game…that has become a rarity of late.

p.s. Jason, I’m not an engineer and even I got some of that…funny stuff! :)

  19. Big Swoll Says:

    Spencer Lee: lolz…. Plant Em!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Walt Says:

Well, it looks like this will be the last year for Furple hatred. Because this morning Georgia Southern accepted an invite to the Sun Belt Conference and are moving up to FBS. App State will be moving with us, so we’ll keep that rivalry, but no more Furple.

  21. Mark Says:

Whaaaaaaat? You can’t spend years cultivating our hate for the Furple and then suddenly tell us to stop!

  22. Big Swoll Says:

I admit I am unaware of the “Furple hatred” phenomenon…. could a kind poster here please enlighten me?

  23. Spencer Lee Says:

Big Swoll, “Furple” is the term of (distinct non) endearment Walt has given Furman – the arch rival of his Georgia Southern Eagles. There is no shortage of vitriol from ole Walt when it comes to the Purple Paladins. :) And this being the close knit family that we are, we’ve added all manner of accelerants to the fire in support of our buddy. It’s harmless fun to us – but Walt has a bitter edge to him. (Love ya Walt!) :)

  24. Big Swoll Says:

For my AU bred/sistren? As they say in the pokey…. you ride with your car…. therefore I am officially in respectful opposition to Walts distinguished competitors. Beware Purple Paladins!

  25. Spencer Lee Says:

That’s the spirit Big Swoll! :) Auburner Family 4 Life! :)

  26. Walt Says:

Mark, I will always hate Furple. Always. But I just doubt we’ll play them very often, if at all, going forward. For pure GSU awesomeness, check out this link to a hype video put out by the school about the announcement…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PyvlXX3tllM

Some horrible editing there at the end; you can pretty much stop watching it after the SunBelt logos start appearing. I’m not sure why the rest was left on after that. Though it is neat to see video of Erk Russell (an Auburn man, himself) at Snooky’s, where he ate breakfast almost every day.

  27. T-Dog Says:

Walt, there’s plenty of room on my Aubie Logo Stealing Snotty Little Sister Clemson hating bandwagon. AND that horrible Barney purple is one of their colors. :)

  28. Walt Says:

T-Dog, conveniently enough, they’re also pretty much in the same city. Furman is in Greenville, SC, which Clemson is practically in

  29. T-Dog Says:

    Welcome to the club!! :)

  30. Lisa Says:

The worst boss I ever had was a Clemson Grad. I’ll gladly jump on the “I hate Clemson” band wagon.

  31. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I’m okay with the Clemson hate here. Another site I frequent (stalk) is all about the hate.

  32. Big Swoll Says:

SEC is hoeated country indeed, and the hate can run hot…. but we can handle it! A few years ago I started noticing some tags with really good pen(person?)ship. They were from a member of a local Asian gangs female auxiliary unit (hence the nice writing I guess). The bus lines were running between sides of town so its highly likely she was a jr or sr high schooler. Anyways, short story long, the tags read “VonnaBoo TRG: Love My Haters!” I thought that was a very SEC attitude to have and I commend it! Their hate makes us stronger, our hate makes our opposition weaker!

  33. Big Swoll Says:

But I only advocate violence in the cage or ring…. or in self defense.

  34. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

I will be trying to come down… does anyone have a couch I can crash on for a night?

I have to check the call schedule again… I won’t be able to make it if I have to work Sunday night (not gonna drive 12 hours both ways if I have to work that schedule).

Someone needs to make sure they save me a memento from each tree if I can’t get there myself.

By the way, I hope those trees are whiter than after the “Monsoon” game versus Florida… oh that was a beautiful sight!!!

  35. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

In the mean time, congratulations to the Women’s basketball team for reaching the QFs of the WNIT , one of the rare positives from a forgettable sports year as long as the “cash” sports are considered (baseball might just as well salvage its season … might).

  36. Spencer Lee Says:

Not looking good for the baseball Tigers. We’ve developed some bad habits thus far that will wreck a season – inconsistent fielding and lack of timely hitting. Pitching has been OK but you can’t win with just that.

  37. Big Swoll Says:

Im all in Spencer Lee, so I hope they heed your words of wisdom….. Omaha, get ready for the Tigers!

  38. Spencer Lee Says:

    http://tracking.si.com/2013/04/03/former-auburn-players-accuse-school-violations/?sct=hp_t2_a2&eref=sihp

I’m sure this item is lighting up the message boards on al.com like only AU allegations can. It will be interesting to see if any hard evidence comes up on this or if it collapses on a lack of corroboration like the allegations levied by some players that played mostly under Tubs (Stanley McGlover, et al). The writer fails to mention where the impropriety fell relative to the AU recruit that had his grades forged…which was the player’s High School in Memphis. So they get a free pass on “guilt by association.”

Ironically, the story comes from Selena Roberts…the same Selena Roberts that is an AU Journalism alum (Class of 88). Not ironic at all is the fact she is the same person that made the rush to an incorrect judgment against the Duke Lacross team in that infamous alleged rape case. She’s not afraid to skip the step of talking with multiple sources on each side of an issue so she can get the scoop on the story. We’ll hear more about this in the days to come.

  39. Big Swoll Says:

    WHAT is THIS all about?!?!?!!
    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9131624/auburn-tigers-coaches-bribed-players-altered-grades-broke-recruiting-rules-gene-chizik-according-report

  40. Jason Says:

Given that it is Selena Roberts and that she has a new website that she’s pushing, I’m a bit skeptical. Even if it turns out to all be false, she gets traffic to her new site and Auburn gets a black eye.

Of course if it turns out to be true, that’s a whole other issue…

  45. Jason Says:

It’s interesting to see as the day goes on how the stories of this morning are being walked back now that a bit of research has been done. Ms. Roberts has received tons of free publicity for her website. It surprises me how many media outlets have bitten on this and all have given her free advertising by publishing the URL for her site. It’s a bad precedent to have set and now they can look forward to being used in this manner by all sorts of attention seekers. For a muckraker like Ms. Roberts, there is no downside to engaging in this type of activity.

  46. Lisa Says:

No sense in letting facts and research get in the way of a good story!

  47. matt Says:

seems like a lot of allegations with no facts backing any of it up at this point— I doubt this stuff is true, but damage is done to AU’s rep nonetheless– my Ohio State (laugh) co-worker in a conversation with another sanctimonius big 10 alum just called AU the dirtiest program in college football history and claimed payments after practice are standard operating procedure for every sec school except mizzou and vandy

  48. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Can they just put us on probation for two years so they can get it out of their system and feel better?

  49. Spencer Lee Says:

matt like one of the more sanity based bloggers noted today…in the 20 years since AU got an NCAA ding 10 other SEC schools have been found guilty of major NCAA rules violations. But more the less informed particularly, perception is reality.

  50. Spencer Lee Says:

p.s. JCMac, no dice on that. Per NCAA President Mark Emmert, this (story from Roberts) is a newspaper story and that’s it. He intonated McNeil would need to contact the NCAA if he wants them to investigate. He better have the right nuber b/c they only give you one call before they slam the doors.

  51. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I mean I am tired of this…. The sports world believes we deserve sanctions for 2010… And per Mark, ESPN will credit anything that discredits us. The media and college football fans, who have been manipulated by the media, have had that axe grinding. I wonder if the NCAA were to punish us, for nothing, if those in the media and fans would feel victorious…. And thus the page would be turned…

  52. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

Well, I am on call this weekend, so I won’t get to come down for the A-Day game and final rolling of The Corner.

Spence, save me a piece from both trees please sir!

  53. Spencer Lee Says:

Thomas…I too won’t be able to make it due to schedule conflicts.

JCMac, I take a counter view. if AU were to be punished after such weak set of allegations that would only embolden the muckrakers and their deranged followers. I say fight any meritless claim at any time. Never give in to the haters.

  54. JCMac (Soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Spencer Lee, I agree that we should not give in, as I believe justice should reign paramount in any context. I hate that the school and place I literally love has been characterized as corrupt. My post was out of frustration that we seemed to have lost the image battle with the media and those who follow sports.

Through procedure we will and we should fight this, but it is upsetting that we have fallen victim to shoddy reporting more than a few times during and since our championship.

Don’t get me wrong, if we broke rules I want to know it, and let happen what happens. But up to this point this is the same type of smear garbage that is not worthy of the front page of ESPN……. yet here we are again.

  55. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

Well, if anyone will be there, do me that favor… and I’ll pay for the shipping and any due compensation.

    Thanks if anyone can help…

and to add my two cents… why would this be coming out just now if it were true; in our age of instant media and people seeking a few minutes of fame, someone would have spoken-up before now.
Besides, some folks have no integrity… and not to throw mud, but Saban is dirtier than the last any wrongs AU may have committed in the last 50 years… well the last 20 maybe.

  56. Spencer Lee Says:

Timing may be tied to the fact McNeil goes to trial…..or was scheduled to go….within a week.

I get what you’re saying JCMac. I’m with you.

  57. JC in FLA Says:

A thug says we did this so it must be true !
Very credible in this Mcneil character…..lets see his decision process….a chance to go pro and make big bucks in the NFL or go rob somebody at a trailer park…..oh, I will pick the robbery….Einstein !

  58. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Agreed on the coincidental timing of stories. It’s most likely had to do with McNeil’s case…. But I don’t like it.

  59. Spencer Lee Says:

    @ JC in FLA LOL!

  60. T-Dog Says:

Between this nonsense by a horrible reporter who should be working for STAR or the National Enquirer, (which makes my journalism degree look a bit more sketchy, thanks buttmunch) and the horrible ESPN story on the fake pot, it’s just pure ridiculousness. I find it ironic that the fake pot/ESPN story is also being based off complaints from one of the Thug Defendant’s (TD) parents who is moaning that they weren’t notified about their son’s fake pot consumption (which the University has proof that they were notified that their son had a REAL pot issue) so THAT’S why he is on trial. Seriously? How about your TD child broke the flippin law and he’s an adult.

I hate to see a former AU player try to defend their actions by throwing the school (that gave them opportunities they would have never had) under the Tiger Transit bus so they don’t have to be at fault for their own actions.

What’s next? Cam also introduced them to hookers, was a fake pot dealer and had a puppy dog fighting ring??

  61. Big Swoll Says:

If anyone can save me a piece of one or both of the trees, I will bring it out to the ring or cage with me for my next fight.

  62. Lane Says:

AU is already planning on cutting the trees up and selling them in various monetary levels of keepsakes.

  63. Big Swoll Says:

Thats a good thing to know. We are losing irreplaceable history. and there is no monetary value that can be put on those trees. But at least they can continue to give in the form of a financial boost even as their time of root comes to an end. Still would be nice to walk out to do battle carrying a piece of cherished history tho…….

  64. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Regarding the trees, as Indiana Jones would say… They belong in a museum!

  65. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Can you wake me up when all the crazies go away?

  66. Spencer Lee Says:

MCT……….hate to say it, but you might be asleep for a long time. We either import or recycle crazy around here all the time.

T-Dog, you have a way with words. Hilarious and insightful at the same time. Good to see you sharpened your skills at AU instead of sharpening an axe like a certain alleged “journalist.”

  67. Spencer Lee Says:

Big Swoll – are any of your bouts on YouTube? If not, see if you can get one on there. THAT would be fun to watch!

  68. Big Swoll Says:

I have never actually gotten a copy of one of my fights. Everybody I know practically says “I will film” but it aint happened and the promoters are even worse! lolz But I have it set up to have decent footage of the next bout. Btw, Vimeo is way better than youtube, although its not as ubiquitous. If you post something on youtube, technically they can “own” the copy of it that is posted and can do what the wish with it. With vimeo, you still retain the rights to what you post, provided its legally yours. Just starting a weight cut now so once the next bout goes down, my Auburner Fam will know and also I will share the footage!

  69. Tdog Says:

Thanks Spence. All this time I thought Lowder was the biggest enemy of the journalism department, but alas it’s one of our own. Sigh.

  70. Spencer Lee Says:

Just out of curiousity Big Swoll…what are you trying to get down to? (personally the only “weight cutting” I could do is if I cut off a limb…was always amazed at the guys that could drop weight back in school for wrestling…I would shake my head in disbelief as I watched from the gym where we were playing basketball) :)

    Well said Tdog.

  71. T-Dog Says:

So, Mr. I’m Going to Prove My Innocence! just received his sentence from HIS guilty plea. Suppose his defense of blaming the University didn’t work as planned. Also guess that puts yet another gaping hole into Buttmunch’s story of “facts.”

  72. Big Swoll Says:

Im @ about 210 right now and need to hit 170 for competition (Welterweight class). Unlike a lot of competitors I drop the weight in its entirety and like to walk around at that weight, maybe just a shade under on weigh in days just to be sure. Recently married tho so with my wifes cooking and an extended Honeymoon, I have been very laxed until now. But have to get paid so its back to the grind!

  73. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Congratulations on your wedding Big Swoll, and yeah, a youtube video of your bout would be pretty cool to watch.

  74. Spencer Lee Says:

Good Lord dude….40 pounds? Again, you guys are amazing. I’m a buck 95. If I tried to get down to 170 I would look like a skeleton. Well, congrats on the nuptuals and good luck in the ring!

T-Dog saw that today. He got a heck of a deal from the DA. 21 years v. 3…remarkable. Of course the fun will be when the Dakota Moseley and Shaun Kitchens trials go down and he is called to testify. Since that’s part of his plea arrangement I would expect him to sing like a canary.

  75. Big Swoll Says:

Fish can be on the regular menu but I go mostly vegetarian with vegan tendencies for the weight cut. However meat provides crucial nutrients as well as…… hey, it’s meat! I aints about to totally give up the delicious satisfaction that comes from chicken/beef/lamb although pork is a no-no from my diet at all times. Thanks to all for the nuptial well wishes :) My daughter bum-rushed me as I type for some good old fashioned ‘Murcan Rasslin! The art that I am most formally trained in is American Catch Wrestling, or catch-as-catch-can wrestling, which is based on Lancashire wrestling from jolly ol England and original American Pro Wrestling (when it was real, holds and etc. that were too dangerous for amateur sporting wrestling competition).

On a more serious note….. what were these guys thinking? Out of all the illegal drugs available, marijuana is the LEAST harmful, even less than tobacco and alcohol, so what is “synthetic weed” anyways and why did they seek it out? Why is such a dangerous substance available legally? Either way, if an athlete wants to compete at their best, chemical free is the way to be. Lets keep it clean and take back the SEC Tigers!!

  76. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

Synthetic weed, from what I heard, gives the same feeling as the natural one, but it is far more harmful to the human body. As is the case with anything new, it took a while for DEA to proclaim it legal and so in the mean times, some companies were trying to make a few bucks by flooding the market with them.

This leads to another question – Why the hell don’t we just make Marijuana legal everywhere?

  77. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

    *proclaim it illegal

  78. Big Swoll Says:

MCT, thats the (literally) billion dollar federal question that many states are waiting to balance their budgets on. But from the articles I have read regarding the AU case, they make it sound like synthetic MaryJane is a whole different ballgame. I have never heard of people being violent on weed or inspired to violence when their stash ran out. Temporarily grumpy or goofy maybe, but never violent. This synthetic stuff either sounds like a chemical nightmare or the guys were just saying that as an excuse to try and leverage lighter sentences.

  79. JCMac Says:

Salvia divinorum is a halluciogen, it is far more dangerous than cannabis; this seems to be the theme of synthetics versus natural mood alterning substances. The first major newspaper to report on the drug was the New York Times in 2001. It has been linked to several health issues, including death.

The law (for the most part) is consistently playing catchup. Salvia did not hit big until recently. Once that happened, it then became a social issue. As of July 2011 only 23 states had made the possession Salvia illegal.

I am not clear on how Auburn should have already known how to address the issue if most states and the federal government were still unclear on the matter.

  80. Ft Worth John Says:

A guy walks in the restaurant where I’m having lunch today and something about him made me instantly dislike him. I didn’t know what it was until I got closer and saw that he was wearing a Furman shirt. No dog in that fight except for the Auburnerites.

  81. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Roll call, who is going to a-day?

  82. Big Swoll Says:

Just a hypothetical question. My wife is from overseas and our daughter was born there as well. the situation there is quite dangerous, I am thinking f relocating us the America on a more permanent basis (currently on an extended visit of family here in the States). Just wondering what the are is like around Auburn. Would be a dream come true to live there and even have the lil one eventually enroll. But the closest I have lived to there is Pensacola,. Id imagine its a wonderful place for families looking to live the quite life and also safe and peaceful for kids while offering an affordable yet active lifestyle. Just wondered yalls opinions…. thanks!

  83. JCMac (Soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

I was confused earlier (piled high in dissertation) on what Auburn players were using. I confused Salvia with Spice. Salvia is not synthetic. Spice has a different history as it is partially synthetic in that they treat the natural herb to make it a mood-altering substance.

Regardless of whether it was Spice, K2, Salvia or even Bath Salts the issue is the same… At the time Auburn won the NC, no one knew how to treat these drugs.

@Big Swoll- I lived in Auburn for 5 years as a student, it was the best time of my life. There are a lot more things to do than there used to be, but the small town element is not lost. Of course, as in any location there are locations in Auburn you’ll want to avoid living at, but I could imagine it as being a wonderful place to raise a family.

  84. Walt Says:

Big Swoll, I live in Auburn right now and LOVE it. I would rather live here than just about anywhere else.

    I’ll be at A-Day without a doubt.

  85. matt Says:

@jcmac– were any AU players accused of using salvia?— back when I was young and stupid, about 10yrs ago- before it was as widespread as it is now–I did it once– it was litereally the most horrifying experience of my life– I was being slowly torn apart by a black hole emanating from my stomach…my friend said it lasted a minute or two- but after I came out of it– it felt like it lasted for years

  86. T-Dog Says:

    A-Day, so there!

In regard to living in AU. I love it there, lived there for five years during school. Wanted to stay there, but the drive to Montgomery and husband’s drive to B’ham at the time was too far. A coworker lives there (works here in Montgomery) JUST FOR the schools alone. He has a child with autism and AU schools are the best in the state for that. Many cultures, always something to do and a well funded city/school system due to their FANTASTIC Economic Dev. team.

  87. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Matt – The report does not mention Salvia. It would not surprise me if the use of salvia spiked in 2010 due to the Miley Cyrus story.

Salvia seems to have the effect of freaking out the user or giving the user hallucinations that they can deal with. It is not as dangerous as K2 or Spice. Salvia was used by Native Americans so it has a long history and is in a resurgence.

I tell my class if they have to do a drug that is illegal to avoid synthetics. However, there is evidence to suggest that smoking pot can lead to lung cancer and impead brain development in adolescents.

Okay, About A-day… Meeting anyone? Last I heard was quixotes?

  88. Big Swoll Says:

Thanks for the info! I am going to take a serious look at the gyms in the area and see if there is a fit for me. If so, I may be about to live the dream!

  89. Walt Says:

JCMac, I’m thinking of tailgating in front of the Nichols Center, if anyone else is up for a meet up. I can leave all my stuff in my office Friday night and then leave it when I go to the game to retrieve on Sunday or Monday. That will be the most likely place to find me. I might just be walking around with my girlfriend, though. Either way I’ll be there at the game and would love to see some of the others from here!

  90. Spencer Lee Says:

Sorry I’m late to the party…just got in last night from Miami (which I wouldn’t recommend as a place to raise a family). Big Swoll I’ve lived here in Auburn since ’08 and totally love it. Citizen surveys on overall satisfaction with living here typically score around 97 percent being glad to be here….which just goes to show you literally can’t please everybody. :)

On the drug issue you guys have nailed it. Spice was available in every grocery store back when the 2010 football season was going on. AU actually helped the NCAA develop their test for Spice but since it’s a synthetic testing for it proves difficult because you can alter it slightly and possibly throw off a test…..at least this is what I’ve come to find out from multiple reports.

  91. Walt Says:

To weight in on the synthetic drug stuff… what gets me the most about the ESPN report is how poorly written it was. It was clearly written with an agenda in mind. Therefore it does belong in the same category as actual “journalism.” I wrote ESPN’s ombudsman to discuss this very issue. Of course, I have not heard anything back or any response. My issue is this…

ESPN wrote an article intending to paint a picture of a drug problem going on at Auburn. That’s fine, if there was a drug issue, then it’s a legitimate story. However, you cannot write the story in the manner they did without providing comparison. If you want to say Auburn was a rogue program with a drug problem, then you have to explain WHY. And in order to do that, you have to provide context. In their “six month investigation” apparently they sent NO ONE to investigate what OTHER SCHOOLS were doing at the same time! So how can Auburn be a program with such a glaring issue if you don’t show that other schools weren’t having the same problem? That could have easily been investigated and reported, as well. And since they focused so much on Alabama’s state laws, it’s funny (though not surprising in the least) that they avoided the LITERAL elephant in the room! They could easily have provided a picture of how The University of Alabama was dealing with their players and this synthetic drug at the same time.

That has been one of my main issues with that piece by ESPN. I can’t even get past that; though it is obvious that were I to take the time to repeat the wheel that others have done and compare facts, their story would fall apart on the facts, alone. But I can’t even make it that far in attempting to read their story because I can’t get past how they can attempt to paint Auburn with such a wide brush while ignoring every other school in the country, and those in Alabama specifically, and how they were dealing with the same problem.

  92. Walt Says:

Good grief, two major typos in the first paragraph. That’s what I get for not proof reading. “weigh in” and “does NOT belong in the same category.”

  93. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

Well, it is official… I CANNOT go to the game or rolling of the trees let alone their.

I am on night call Friday and Sunday…

I know it will be loud but someone has to post some video from the events.

Also, if anyone can give an update on any on when tree items can be purchased, I would be most appreciative. I gotta get a piece of both trees.

Oh and for my two cents, they better replace those trees with live oaks… we deserve them…going with overcups is like waving a white flag!

  94. Spencer Lee Says:

Very well said Walt….typos not withstanding. We know what you meant and your points were crystal clear. Thomas, I’m with you on the “hate I can’t make it bus.” :(

  95. Music City Tiger (Formerly Michiana Tiger) Says:

As much as I would love to live in Auburn (did that for 5 years including 3 after I graduated), biggest thing for me is job opportunities for me and my wife (AU grad too). That was the only reason we moved out.

I too won’t be able to make it to the A-Day. :(

  96. Spencer Lee Says:

MCT, totally understand having to move away from Auburn for job opportunities. I did the same thing for 16 years. I was fortunate enough to have a good gig that is driving distance away in Mgy.

  97. Big Swoll Says:

The main downside I can see is the occurrence of hurricanes/tornadoes. I left that behind in Pensacola many years ago, but I guess I traded it for the risk of earthquakes here on the West Coast. But this is the world we live in, not heaven, and there is the risk of disaster anywhere on Gods green earth. I have heard there are many trees there and its has much natural beauty so that sounds like a wonderful place for a family, along with the safe and living and good morality of the area.

  98. JCMac (soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

Although hurricanes are a concern I would be more fearful of tornadoes in Auburn.

  99. Spencer Lee Says:

Roger that JCMac…but “tornado alley” runs from T’loosa to B’ham so we are spared the worst tornado activity. (a recent outburst not withstanding)

  100. JCMac (Soon to be Memphis Mac) Says:

    100 w00t!

  101. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

Blast; missed it by one… didn’t even register on my radar at first, but I was too late.

    Congrats JC.

  102. Spencer Lee Says:

JCMac is our resident centurion! I’ll take the assist on that one…you’re welcome!
