Hope for a victory…not like ’99. I traveled down from Greenville SC to watch them lose to Ole Miss…think it might have been just after Tubby left the coaching job there and came to the Plains. They had a big fan base there that day and Rebel boo birds were giving Tubs a hard time.
It’s hard for me to believe Ole Miss will be able to completely shake off that embarrassment at the crapstone last week. They were flying pretty high and I think they come in just a little bit dispirited. Hopefully Auburn has worked out some of the kinks in the off week. I fully expect to see a Nakeemadarechee or two put on their backsides in the dying cockroach position.
I really don’t know how to figure this game. We played them fairly close until the end of last year’s game even with as bad as that team was. Our conditioning isn’t going to be as big a help in this game since they play a similar offense and will also be used to a HUNH pace. This is one of those games where I’ve really just had no idea how it’s going to go. I didn’t know at the beginning of the year, and I don’t know now. Their QB is going to give us fits, as mobile QBs have done so far this year. I think our offense is going to be able to score points, we’re just going to have to hope the D is as healthy as possible and their able to get some stops.
I think its going to be close on the first half, then in the 3rd they’ll score first get all cocky but then BAM! Our D shows up and starts a 4th Q rally… and by then they’ll be all “its a trap!” and we’ll be all “oh yeah it is!” and BOOM goes the dynamite!!!

*I apologize for this post….I’m on vacay, in the mountains and having a glass of wine at 1:30. And I’m all Go team!
OK……now where was I…..oh yeah, the game. There are a lot of unknowns here but there is one “known” and that’s the fact we have problems against teams with mobile QB’s, so I expect to give up copious yardage. My hope rests on red zone defense. If we can hold them to FG’s more times than not I think we’ll be able to win it in the end. They got thumped pretty good last week but that’s mostly due to their opponent rather than them being ineffective.
I do think we’ll be able to run the ball…which should take some pressure off Marshall. If we hit on our opportunities down field we could turn this into a 2 score game in the end. Somehow I don’t see us hitting on all cylinders but still managing a 3 point W.
I see big things on the AU horizon with Marshall at the helm. But I also think that if Wallace sticks with it, matures physically and mentally (maybe even a redshirt year) and can continue to learn the Gus system, once he’s a senior he just might be the man to lead the Plainsmen back to the top of the college football world.
Big Swoll, I honestly don’t know if Nick Marshall will even be the starter next year, but I’m almost 100% confident it won’t be Wallace. If Johnson was pushing for starting as a true freshmen, then I’m going to bet he’ll be ready to take over next year as a redshirt freshmen. Unless Marshall improves to be a fantastic QB by the end of the year. JJ is going to be a superstar. Marshall is good right now, but still has too many inconsistencies. If he doesn’t get over those, I think JJ beats him out for the job this spring or next fall.
Is it just me, or does the team tonight remind you of a team of 80′s greats running Malzahn’s offense? Mason is reminding me of Lionel James, Artis-Payne has shades of a Tommie Agie, and Marshal is showing some shades of Reggie Slack. Maybe we have it together now?
