The best measure is the Ole Miss v. aTm game. Which is a game that pushed aTm to the limits. Those players have to be dinged up and a little tired after that game. Ole Miss did us a huge favor, by taking it to the wire and not winning.
I was reading Sumlin’s comments and he realizes after watching film that, Hey Guess What! Auburn is kind of a threat. He did seem surprised by this. I’m taking it that he is also having to convince his players. This may be a difficult task after last year.
I’m hoping this was a late realization by Sumlin. Meaning, I hope they did not prepare for Auburn like they prepared for Ole Miss or Bama. On our side, I would guess we have been preparing for aTm for about a week and a half now. I might be crazy… and I probably am, I also have a record of being overly optimistic too, but I think this game parallels the ’99 LSU Auburn game. I see a big win, so certify me delusional.
The AU rebuilding project is WAY ahead of schedule but we still need a few pieces to make it complete. One of those is middle linebacker. Look for TAMU to exploit that (Manziel runs and passes to the middle) and for Johnny Autograph to have a huge game in the air and on the ground. They have a truly elite offense so I don’t see us keeping them under 40. Their D, as we have all heard, struggles v. the run and we run the ball about as well as anyone in the country. That alone gives me hope…but not enough.
p.s. JCMac, I wouldn’t list you as “certified” and your LSU `99 comparison would have merit if TAMU 2013 was as flawed as the 1999 version of the Bayou Bengals. Still an AU win could be in the cards…wouldn’t be a total shock. AND if they do pull that off, the sky would be the limit for the rest of the year.
Johnny will run in the general direction of Holland so Jake will be picking up that jock on numerous occasions I’m afraid…PUT IN FROST !
Hopefully it will be a nerve wracking game for me since the close games make me that way….hard to say, but AU-42- TAMU-38…just a WAG but must enter something. Mulitple Leinenkugels Orange and Summer Shandy being consumed for this one. Sun morning will have all the dead soldiers lined up on the kitchen table !
I feel kind of like the Ole Miss game on this one. I just don’t know. I think we have a very legitimate shot to win this. I think our defense has gotten better as each game goes along (particularly in the red zone). However, Johnny Football is the great equalizer, since we have a lot of trouble with mobile QBs. I think if we can get pressure with just the four down linemen like we did against Ole Miss, then we have a very good chance of getting a few stops or turnovers. As for their defense and our offense, their already weak D has taken a hit with injuries lately, and I think we’ll see our running game get them. Particularly the read option. Ole Miss looked good doing that against them last weekend, and if Marshall is healthy, then that will open up our running game considerably. And I still think we’ll throw Johnson in on a few plays, and at least once he’ll be called upon to throw that pretty bomb that he threw to Louis in the WCU game. And I almost hope the pass is to Louis and not to Coates, since Coates has dropped a few of them. I’m going to say we win, because I always pick us, and it’s going to be 45-38. The 30+ point streak continues.
It will be epic…Johnny will end up in tears, rocking himself on the sidelines, Godzilla and Mothra will make an appearance, Tre will run for 5,000 yards and Gus will fly out on a pegasus surrounded by golden eagles. I say this because I will be nowhere near a tv nor good enough 4g to know what’s going on….also, Clemson will fall into a sinkhole.
Matt, you’re not too far from mine. I do see some scenarios that could spell an AU win, but I see a few more that point the other direction. Fortunately I don’t see any that resemble the uncontrolled grease fire of last year’s AU/TAMU game.
We do NOT want anything to do with corso or espn talking heads imo. They show disrespect the the mighty War Eagle so let them hang-dry imo. He’s kinda got a decent percentage because he just goes with obvious pics mainly. Corso is slime that sells “hooters” to families and children during afternoon and prime-time hours. A coarse, doddering, attention hungry fool surrounded by a bitter, opinionated washout (herbstreet) and a semi-professional bungler who puts just enough polish on the Game Day set to keep it from full on public access quality broadcasts. In short, they a a trio of jabbering jackanapes, and I mute them if i cant avoid their broadcasts altogether.
Spencer Lee…. glad you liked my Eddie Mac impersonation…… now if I just just deliver on one of them million dollar PCH checks, wed be in biz! Hi-yoooo!
Corso picked Fresno State to upset Auburn. The final score: Auburn 62, Fresno 0… with their coach thanking Bowden for not running up the score. He often picks against Auburn, some claim its because he was turned down for the coaching job here. I think it’s simply a generational thing in that he, like many of his generation, have a thing for the glory days of Bear Bryant, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Schembechler. That automatically makes Auburn the bad choice.
Ive also heard another reason Corso doesn’t like us is he can’t wear our mascot head. We are about the only school with such strict rules on our mascot. I love it. It keeps Aubie pure. We had an Aubie at a race vent, and when the “Aubie’s helper” was walking away, the coordinator needed to tell him something and was yelling “Aubie!” But he wouldn’t turn around, she caught up to him and he apologized for ignoring her, they’re not allowed to acknowledge anyone calling them Aubie when not in uniform. That’s pure awesomeness right there!!!
Anyhoo, more importantly, I hope Holtz picks against us, AND I have 4-3 G up here! Whoop whoop!!!!
Tdog, it goes much further. There’s no such thing as a costumed mascot. Aubie is Aubie. There are people known as “Friends of Aubie” who have a deeper knowledge of his life… As for Corso, you’re correct in that we don’t let him attempt to appear as a version of Aubie. Because it’s not a “mascot head.” Aubie is Aubie and that’s all there is to it. So, he has to put on the Auburn helmet. I love that we stick to our commitment that Aubie is so much more than a “mascot.”
No idea on Holsey…..one other Corso / AU link that might be stuck in his head was the fact he wrote Shug to try and get a game scheduled b/n his Louisville team and AU around `75. The War Eagle Reader has the letters from Corso and Shug. We turned him down but very graciously. Still…..who knows if this has anything to it or not?
Unfortunately, I think the rumors about Holsey are true. It appears he definitely did not travel with the team. The extent of his injury is unknown, yet, but I’m hearing torn ACL in practice on Thursday, out for the year (obviously).
