Auburn v. Arkansas Predictions

Will the reigning SEC champs dominate Bert’s hogs?

Or will Arkansas continue their tendency to be a harder game for Auburn than it should?

What say you?

I think we’ll start off a little shaky, cause, that’s what we do. But we’ll find a rhythm and take down Kool-Aid (when Bert wears all red I expect him to bust through a wall screaming OH YEAH!) and the Hogs.

Very excited about this weekend. I’m off to buy massive amounts of sunscreen today! I’m also very interested in Thursday night’s game. I give A&M the edge in that one.

    Tigers: 45
    Kool-Aid: 14

  2. Busch Barbarian Says:

Bert’s bumbling ignorance added to his offseason skulduggery with his buddy Squirt equals a long day in the hellish south Alabama sun.

    AU – 57
    Arkanslaw – 7

  3. Spencer Lee Says:

I see us starting a little slow (ditto on Tdog there) then pulling away in the 3rd before Ark gets an “oh by the way” score to make to look closer than it really was.

    AU 38
    Ark 24

  4. JCMac Says:

As usual I think Spencer Lee is on point.

    AU 34
    Pig 23

Watched Barkley, Bo and the Big Hurt last night…very good. And has me even more pumped for Saturday! I even bought my game day outfit, cause that’s what girls do. And I’m totally prepared to wear it all season for good mojo if need be. :)

I am a little undecided. On one hand, we have arguably the greatest offensive schemer and play-caller in the country. I am perfectly confident in Gus’ ability, especially after what we accomplished last year with less time for the team to learn everything. On the other hand, we’ve lost some real talent on both sides of the ball. With Kozan, Robinson, Lawson, etc. all out or gone, there is room for some speculation on how well we will fill those roles. Sure, we have the talent, but it has to translate into performance. Coupled with our “Arkansas hex curse” I am a little worried about this one. I think we start slow, then everyone settles in and we put up our first “W” of the year.

    AU – 31
    Oinkers – 17

  7. Nick Says:

    We’re… there.

I think I’m still scarred from ’03 and ’05, because I am TERRIFIED of first games of the season. I feel like anything can happen. I can foresee any number of things (except an arkansas blowout) happening. I think its almost a given that we win. But only by 7-10…

    AU- 35
    ua- 27

Anybody else remember that stat about Ellis Johnson’s defensive numbers improving WILDLY from year one to year two? I remember hearing about that all last offseason. I haven’t forgotten that, and have this fantasy where we are suddenly an old-style AU defense that allows 11 points a game, but our O still scores a nice Malzahn-y 40. Sweet dreams.

  8. AuburnFish Says:

That would be nice, Nick. Let’s hope so!

  9. Spencer Lee Says:

Nick we’re a LONG way from being a “11- points-a-game” type D. Fortunately if you score well into the 30′s v. practically everybody you don’t have to be. IF that type D were to arise while Gus is still coaching – you would be blowouts every week. Imagine that for a second…

Thanks for the tip of the cap JCMac! :)

Ark may be able to slowly grind out some yards using the SDHU (slow down huddle up) and take some chunks of time off the clock . AU should be able to score 30 on just about anybody. Those hogs will definitely be worn down in the heat and won’t be able to put together 60 minutes. Not sure how much we score, but we definitely win by double digits.

So I couldn’t tell if aTm was just that good or if USC was way overrated. Ole Miss also didn’t look too great. Hoping we look a lot better that what I saw last night!

  13. Tdog Says:

I saw the USC loss coming. I give Mizzou the East. Having a returning QB or one with decent playing time is going to be key this year. It’s hard in the SEC to have a green QB come in and face the defenses we have. I think Bama may be a prime example of this this year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I was giddy last night as I scrolled through my guide and saw FOOTBALL FOOTBALL FOOTBALL! :)

  14. JC in FLA Says:

That QB for A&M was a machine ! I am glad we have them in Gods Country in November. So, looking at the weather up there, tomorrow could be a quagmire…says 80% storms in the PM at Jordan Hare…I hate those kind of games ! GO BIG BLUE !

  15. Big Swoll Says:

I figured the A&M/Gamers tilt would go down like it did. I still think Scar will finish ranked higher by virtue of their East designation, but A&M was a nightmare matchup for the Head Ball Coach, especially first game in the season.

  16. Thomas (formerly the Huntsville one, now the Charleston, West Virginia one) Says:

I hold in my hand the envelopes. As even a Bama fan can plainly see, these envelopes have been hermetically sealed. They’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar in the window sill of Toomer’s Drug since noon today. No one knows the contents of these envelopes, but I, in my borderline divine and mystical way, will ascertain the answers having never before seen the questions.

    1) “Sqeel”ema.

    2) 3 out of 4.

    3) 60%.

    4) One quarter.

    1) Nickname eared by Arkansas’ head coach after his next gripe fest.

    2) The stat that will be quoted at least 3 times by commentators about Arky’s wins on recent trips to The Plains.

    3) Percentage of Arkansas fans under 30 that will try to take advantage of the “braces deal.”

    4) How long Marshall will wait to play (and why Bielema will complain his team still didn’t have a fair shot).

  17. Walt Says:

Ugh. I had something written, moved to a different window real quick, and then it changed on me. I said 42-24 on my College and Magnolia prediction. They held us to 10 full possessions last year by controlling the ball, and it will likely be the same this year. If we cover that 20 point spread it will probably be late in the 4th quarter. The potential of rain and storms could keep the scoring low, as well.
