It was 50/50 for me today, like any A-day game experience….
I got to see the AU ARENA, very nice…. it will get loud in there
To the average eye, the QB situation got more confusing… but they didn’t play Newton a lot… and that tells me everything I need to know…
I did see a few drops while Spence was boosting the AU economy… But the usual WR weakness is actually a stength…. Trooper is obviously a great coach… YAC was tremendous!!!
We need to stop this ‘line up in the shotgun at the goalline’ crap… It does not work!!!
Shoemaker is inconsistent… but when he hits one right, it looks great…
I agree with an earlier post about Byrum’s kickoffs, he is doing a great job on FGs and PATs…. but it would be nice to get a few in the endzone…
A lot more screens and passes out into the flat… Hey, and I swore I saw a slant, it’s a Christmas Miracle!!! — and a few deep balls…. Malzahn is definately stretching the field…
The running game was not impressive, but somehow Fannin was… idk…
I was happier about the D… the running game was shutdown, for the most part…
Anyway, it was a lot of something that told us a lot of nothing…. and I didn’t get sunburnt this weekend and Auburn won (achievement unlocked!)

the cup runneth over in Tuscaloosa barners, i doubt you saw five players on the plains today who would ever see the field if the played for Saban…ROLL TIDE
April 17th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
… and that cup is full of piss

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! GOOD ONE JCMac! Concise, cogent and dead freakin’ on! You rock my friend!
As for my observations…
I took my daughter to A-Day, so I spent about 1/3 of the game at the consession stands (supported the local economy on behalf of the little missy).
As for football, we still don’t have a kickoff option that gets the ball remotely close to the goal line…if you add that to our kick coverage from last year and you would have a prescription for high anxiety every time we kick off (let’s hope Coach Boulware gets a better performance from his kids). As for plays from scrimmage, it was a steady diet of screens then running out a deep route. Nearly every deep ball by all 4 QB’s was on the money. The running lanes were few and far between…that was primarily due to shuffling among O linemen. I don’t recall any series’ that had the 1st team O line on the field at the same time. Of course I was “detained” for a big chunk of the game so I could have missed Elvis singing at halftime for all I know. Nonetheless, Donte Ayecock looked like he was ready to step into a major role at RB. He won’t win any 40 yard dashes but he showed good vision, balance and strength. That’s enough for me.
I didn’t see any drops by a receiver, TE, or RB. My, what a difference 2 years makes. :) And the blocking by the WR’s I thought was exceptional.
All in all, it wasn’t perfect…what Spring game is? But there is reason for significant optimism. And the program continues to move in the right direction.

BTW, thanks for filling me in on the parts of the game I missed JCMac….as in a huge part of it. I, too, didn’t get sunburned. Of course it’s hard to get any sun standing on the concourse slapping down 10′s and 20′s like a blackjack dealer tosses cards. ;)

So I watched it on my lovely DVR and what I saw was pretty spectacular…. And makes me wish football season was here! :) As for Matt*, I saw a little bit of ya’lls “A-day game” and what I saw made me chuckle. Your defense was doing a terrible job of stopping the run (as always) and Saban looked like a tool in his suit.
Oh, did anybody notice Coach Chizik’s “costume change?” He was most definitely wearing and Orange shirt in the first half, and when they came back out, BOOM, element of surprise! He was wearing a blue shirt!
April 18th, 2010 at 12:23 am
That J… or maybe just “tabaccer spit”… maybe a little of both. We all know how innovative Bammers are. No need to re-invent the wheel.
If a cup is good for one waste product, it must be good for others!
And waste is a nice way of saying what seems to be explosively projected from his mouth on a constant basis. If he wore britches on his face, he’d be having to change them every five minutes.
Man, wish I’d been at the game!

One side bar on Saturday’s halftime…when they announced the team of the decade, why didn’t they run highlight clips on the big screen for each player? They had all the time in the world to devote to that, and it would have jacked up the crowd. They could have really turned that into quite a spectacle.

Auburn played that game close to the vest. Watched the game again, and #1 D is definitely playing better, but still lacks depth. Keep in mind that the potential entire starting secondary was out for injury, or protection (Savage, Thorpe, Etheridge, Bates – yes, I expect him to move back). Noticeable drop off in tackling in the secondary when the 2nd team was on the field (blue team). LBs were still jumping out of position, including Bynes, and especially Eltoro. We will have some serious pressure from the DL this year. OL played well, but new RTs got beat a couple of times. Overall a good team on the field, with a lot of room for improvement. Don’t knock Cam, 4 or his 5 incompletion would’ve been had by the #1 O. One was a beautiful throw, receiver was pushed out of bounds, the other 3 were high, but in the receivers hands (you would think the bigger T-Zach & D. Adams would lock those down). All were when he was with the 2nd (& maybe 3rd) team WRs. Worst thrown ball in the game was when he looked off the flat route and tried to throw the seam, way under thrown, but better than overthrowing it. Trotter overthrew the same route, and I think it would’ve been picked if it was against the #1 D.
And, BTW. Anybody catch that bama kicking game (or lack thereof)? 20 yd punt avg., and missed all field goals over 40 yds (all short). Won’t win many close games with that.
April 18th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
Solvacc, yes I did catch that. Seems they have stooped even lower than the terrible kicking skills of Leigh Tiffin, which is quite a feat. :)

91,000 vs, 60,000…little brother in so many ways
April 19th, 2010 at 8:00 am
60,000 that paid to see the game >>>>>>>>> “91,000″ that walked in to use indoor plumbing

The funny thing to me is the source of all Matt’s* belittlement has a better record v. UAT than any other school I can think of (other than ones that played infrequently…such as Notre Dame or Texas). It makes you wonder how much more over the top his elitist condescension would be towards LSU, UF, TN, et al. Also makes you wonder if he has the ability to see anything for what it’s worth (is HIS mustard stained wife beater better solely b/c HE is wearing it…and not some rube from Knoxville?). Pitiful.
April 19th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
i’m sorry shug was your coach for all those years and we had the BEAR, the record might have been a little better…Auburn is inconsequential
April 19th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Matt* I doubt you have the capacity to recognize class unless it wears hounstooth and talks like the characters from Hee Haw. Listen to the people that were around when Shug Jordan was coaching….including Bear Bryant. He had respect for Jordan and vice versa. Listen to the people that played for Bryant when Jordan was coaching. Again, respect.
Is it possible to find Kool-Aid drinkers such as yourself that have nil capacity to respect anything of, from or about Auburn? Sure, the world will always have its share of fools. I’m speaking of level-headed Bama fans and alums – perhaps you don’t know any and you live in an echo chamber of RTR.
If so, too bad.
I’m sure you have no personal recollection of Jordan based on the caliber of your commentary (which reflects your relative youth), but for a baffoon like you to try and denigrate Jordan. That’s rich.
April 19th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
p.s. If Auburn were so inconsequential, why are you posting to an Auburn web site? (A question frequently raised by Auburner posters….yet no reply still)
April 19th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
For Auburn to be so inconsequential, you sure do post a lot about it.
April 19th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
No need to be sorry matt*************. Shug had great success as our coach, undoubtedly not as much as Bahr had. But what you don’t understand is that the Bahr’s success led to a fan base of trailer trash and hicks. Shug’s success only added to the great experience that is Auburn. Yeah, you guys got a stadium full of mullets this past Saturday, but who wouldn’t expect that after the season Bamar just had? I’m sure their fans came out to celebrate the BCS win and to see the midget’s statue as much as anything on Saturday in Tuscalooser. Our fans came out to celebrate all that is great with Auburn and to connect and re-connect with Auburn family and friends. Your fans came out to gloat and boast.
What has an average IQ of 85, more mullets than Mobile Bay, and an average 8th grade education level? A-Day in Tuscalooser! War Damn Eagle!!!
April 19th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
Gaines, that was epic! haha So Matt*, why is it you refuse to answer our constant question about hating us so much, but yet being so obsessed? It’s not like we’ll insult you forever about it. :)
April 19th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
i endured the shula years, and all of you classless ja&$^sses walking around with your streak t-shirts, and tommy -t holding fingers up in the air…well, we threw a pile of money at Saban’s feet and went nuclear…now I just like to remind you of your place in line…and its behind BAMA
April 19th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
Awwww… poor matt*************. I endured the Barfield years and had to listen to Bama’s classless jackass fans touting their nine wins in a row including their sole claim to the 1978 National Championship (they split it with USC who won the coaches poll while Bamar won the AP poll). So what?
You guys paid Saban an ass-pile of cash because he wouldn’t come coach there otherwise. And give credit where credit is due, U of A had an ass-pile of cash to give to attract Saban to come coach there. Obviously for him, it’s all about the money. He left Michigan State for LSU because LSU put up more cash. He left LSU for the Miami Dolphins because they put up more cash. He left the Miami Dolphins because Bama put up more cash. I guarantee you that if any team *really* wanted him, all they would have to do is wave more cash in his face and he would be gone in a heartbeat. Funny thing is, no one else wants him.
April 19th, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Oh, and if we are classless jackasses for wearing our streak t-shirts, does that make Bama fans classless jackasses for wearing “13″ t-shirts when everyone else in the world of college football credits them with 8?
April 19th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Irony never seems to daunt our dear friend Matt*. “Classless jackass” is his charge against us while he interlopes daily to sling his drivel on an Auburn website. Typical Bammer.
April 19th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Matt has redefined the idea of “Act like you have been there before..”
April 19th, 2010 at 7:49 pm
point well taken JCMac…

April 20th, 2010 at 8:27 am
So a bamar homer predicts another 12 – 0 season for the turds. Makes me just want to shed a gallon of tears there matt*************.
April 20th, 2010 at 9:21 am
I don’t know what’s funnier…the fact that Paul Finebaum actually thinks Bama will go 12-0 again, or the fact that Matt actually thinks that he is a credible reference on the topic!
April 20th, 2010 at 9:36 am
Hillrya, you know slimebaum is just placating his fans. However, Bama has quite an easy schedule this year, save the games against Tennessee (rivalry game, new coach), Florida (new QB), and Auburn (rivalry game, new QB). Arkansas may be a challenge to them as could LSU, but I don’t see either of those teams being as powerful in the SEC West as they have been in the past. The SEC East expects Florida to win, but only because UGA is starting a new QB and a revamped offense. The only non-conference challenge will be Penn State, and Joe Pa is such a drag on that program now that they could very easily lose in BDT stadium. Bama is in the catbird seat to win it all again since the SEC in total is going to be down again due to major changes across the board in major programs, but they also have a huge target painted on them too. I can see the rivalry games being particularly tough on them this year as they were last year. UT and AU did the best jobs of containing Ingram and keeping the scores close, and those games were based solely on the emotion related to the games. Does Bama have a chance to do it all again back-to-back? I believe that they do have that chance, but it will be particularly tougher in the SEC with that huge target on them. Just ask LSU and Florida how difficult it is to go back-to-back BCS champs in the SEC.
