Wow there were some parts of that game that were ugly, but overall we dominated that game by MUCH more than what the final score was. We pushed their offense around except for about three drives, and that last touchdown was just dumb luck. Our offense beat itself in the redzone at least once that I can think of (McCalebb, you’ve GOT to catch that football!), but overall it pushed around Monte Kiffin’s D.
WDE! It’s time people start taking notice!

26-22 is such a lie. The score will remain 26-16 to me, and it should have been a lot worse. Too many field goals, but at least Wes has really improved. Also, the offense needs to stop getting cute in the redzone with the wildcat. Pound with Tate, hit the corner with McCalebb. If we stick with that gameplan, we’ll be golden. Maybe even try some reverses, but those can end up hit-or-miss.
Another thing I noticed is that Todd seems to be desperately afraid of running with the ball. There were two times I can clearly remember where he escaped the pocket and was standing on the line of scrimmage, no defenders within 10 yards, and he just stands there looking for a receiver, eventually throwing incomplete, when instead he could have at least run for 5.
One final note: Eric Smith making the hammering gesture at the end after picking up the final first down was genius.

Love the banner of Ronnie Brown exploding the Death Star! What a great game too! We still have some work to do, but man do we have the right coaches to lead our players in doing the right work to be better. Glad that the Auburner is posting updates once again too! War Eagle!!!

Polls?? We don’t need no stinkin’ polls. TN can have a vol walk in honor of their moral victory.

Well, I predicted 40-27. So I wasn’t too close, but I think you’ll all agree that this is what the score should’ve been based on the way both teams played. UT earned there 26 fair and square. We let them go 3/3 on 4th down conversions which is unacceptable especially on 4th and longs. AU left alot of points out there by having to kick FGs. McCaleb and Fannin (catch the ^%!#$ ball). The D tackled alot better and did not let the SEC leading rusher beat them. Crompton looked like Crompton thru 3 quarters, but a light came on in the 4th. Good for him. Give the bammers hell. Also we only had 3 pts off the one turnover. Overall I’m ecstatic. Hate that we gave up the late TD and should’ve put the game away at 27-6. Young team and getting better each week. O will be the showcase next week and anything the D can do will help. War Eagle!

So I just got back from the game— I so want to see the replay tomorrow— but from the stands I think score should stay at 23-6— It was evident that Auburn was playing it safe at the end of the game— After we scored the defense dropped the safeties back, so we wouldn’t give up the big play–
Let us avoid a let down against Arkansas—-
War Eagle guys!!!!

For what it’s worth, it seems our D success is predicated more by scheme than players. Case in point, when we had “the right defensive” called we typically swamped the Vols. But if we went with, say, a corner blitz from the left side and they handed off to a back going the other way, they could run for a long way. All this may seem obvious to you but if you took the 1993 defense (much less the 1983/1984 defenses), they didn’t have to reply on schemes asmuch. Maybe this will improve once more quality depth is built into the roster.

Agree with wildkodi. We need to temper our use of the Wildcat formation. We are more of a threat with the standard set up.
Also, Todd should have run it a few times when he was open.
Other than that, our defense grew up during this game. Ands special teams play improved quite a bit. That run back by McCalebb was huge.

Here’s a thought:
Chizek at Iowa State – 5 wins in 2 years
Chizek at Auburn – 5 wins in 5 games
Most of the critics would have given us a 3-2 record by this point. I know the hardest games are still in front of us (save Furman)

(oops) …con’t
but that’s encouraging nonetheless.

Solid play for the most part… still the D gave up some big plays. We need to work a little more execution. Special teams did better BUT we have to quit letting people get so many yards on returns.
BUT… 5-0, I can’t complain. This venue was much noisier than it will be at Arkansas, but Ark’s O will be much beefier.
I will also note that… I hate pee-wee league football plays EXCEPT when we use them and get 1st downs off of them. I CAN’T BELIEVE we used that play that Ark used against us a while back. I had to laugh!!!
Over all performace I would rate a B- to B on public school scale (82-85). A few more caught passes and another INT and they would have gotten a B+.
Keep improving… I like the talent and the progress I’m seeing!

If we continue to control games like we did against TN, we should be in good shape and pull out another couple of quality wins. We had the ball for almost 10 more minutes than they did. The evolution of Ben Tate as a playmaker is great to watch and rivals any other SEC backs’ performance so far. Good job, tigers!

Is anyone else embarrassed that the leading passer in the game was Crompton?
This is awful. They also had the leading receiver. Which is weird, because I dont really remember them catching anything.

Nick, Crompton had 181 yards in the 4th Quarter…that explains how he finished as the top passer. No picks from him WAS a surprise. I was anticipating a couple.

Nice running game, nice kickoff returns, no mistakes on the punts. Awesome run by Ben Tate knocking the guy out of the way like he wasn’t there. Enjoyed the trick play (guy crouched down behind the guard) that Malzahn used against us 2 years ago with Arkansas.
