SEC Predictions
5-20-08
by: Ryan

No one reads my introductions anyways, so here are my picks for each SEC game for the 2008 season with minimal explanation, despite the fact that games won’t start for another 4 months.  I will go in reverse alphabetical order (I’ll give you one guess why… but please don’t email me your guesses.)  I’m sure at least one of these will be close to what happens…

Vanderbilt  (Final Record: 4-8, 1-7 SEC)

@ Miami (OH) – W (17-7)

South Carolina – L (10-33)

Rice – W (24-13)

@ Ole Miss – L (21-24 OT)

Auburn – L (9-38)

@ Mississippi State – L (7-13)

@ Georgia – L (7-34)

Duke – W (21-3)

Florida – L (13-31)

@ Kentucky – W (17-14 OT)

Tennessee – L (21-33)

@ Wake Forest – L (17-24)

Vanderbilt has another tough season with the only decent win on the schedule coming over Kentucky while cleaning up only against the teams that have no business in Div I football.  Look for a real heartbreaker against Ole Miss on the road.

Tennessee (Final Record: 8-4, 4-4 SEC)

@ UCLA – W (28-21)

UAB – W (42-14)

Florida – W (20-14)

@ Auburn – L (28-31)

Northern Illinois – W (44-20)

@ Georgia – L (10-24)

Mississippi State – W (35-17)

Alabama – W (21-17)

@ South Carolina – L (21-38)

Wyoming – W (21-13)

@ Vanderbilt – W (33-21)

Kentucky – L (14-28)

Tennessee is as bipolar as ever this season with masterful wins over Florida and a clutch win over Alabama, while blowing comebacks against Auburn and South Carolina.  Karma comes around to bite the Volunteers in their ugly-orange butts this year.

South Carolina (Final Record: 9-3, 5-3 SEC)

NC State – W (14-10)

Vanderbilt – W (33-10)

Georgia – W (27-20)

Wofford – W (45-12)

UAB – W (39-6)

@ Ole Miss – W (21-19)

@ Kentucky – L (12-24)

LSU – L (17-28)

Tennessee – W (38-21)

Arkansas – W (27-14)

@ Florida – L (31-35)

@ Clemson – W (31-28)

South Carolina and Steve Spurrier will be causing a huge uproar early in the season with a HUGE win over Georgia.  SEC fans will feel chills down their spine as it seems that Spurrier may have finally put everything in place.  However, the Gamecocks are overcome at the end of the season with too many big games in a row, dropping games against LSU, Kentucky and Florida.  They end the season by ruining Clemson’s BCS hopes with a last second win.

Mississippi State (Final Record: 6-6, 2-6 SEC)

@ Louisiana Tech – W (31-10)

Southeastern Louisiana – W (27-8)

Auburn – L (17-28)

Georgia Tech – W (14-10)

@ LSU – L (17-31)

Vanderbilt – W (13-7)

@ Tennessee – L (17-35)

Middle Tennessee – W (28-6)

Kentucky – L (17-19)

@ Alabama – L (13-17)

Arkansas – L (18-21)

@ Ole Miss – W (33-14)

Mississippi State will be able to attain bowl eligibility again this season, merely by taking advantage of their soft out of conference schedule and overcoming Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.  Don’t look for any of the bigger teams this year to be caught off guard for a surprise “Crooming.”

Ole Miss (Final Record: 5-7, 2-6 SEC)

Memphis – W (24-21 OT)

@ Wake Forest – L (13-28)

Samford – W (35-14)

Vanderbilt – W (24-21 OT)

@ Florida – L (7-33)

South Carolina – L (19-21)

@ Alabama – L (14-21)

@ Arkansas – W (24-17)

Auburn – L (6-34)

Louisiana-Monroe – W (21-9)

@ LSU – L (3-28)

Mississippi State – L (14-33)

Ole Miss will do about what is expected of them this year (which isn’t much), even with the added insanity of Houston Nutt.  The biggest win of the year occurs with Houston Nutt fires his boys up as he returns to Arkansas for the first time since his firing.

LSU (Final Record: 9-3, 5-3 SEC)

Appalachian State – W (28-3)

Troy – W (31-6)

North Texas – W (42-7)

@ Auburn – L (13-17)

Mississippi State – W (31-17)

@ Florida – L (21-27)

@ South Carolina – W (28-17)

Georgia – L (18-23)

Tulane – W (44-9)

Alabama – W (28-14)

Ole Miss – W (28-3)

@ Arkansas – W (17-14)

Les Miles gets a raise this year, but loses his starting quarterback (he FINALLY cut Perrilloux) and all of “Saban’s Players.”  Despite being a complete rebuilding year for LSU, they are still a good enough to beat anyone in the West with some ease (save Auburn) while putting up expected losses against powerhouses Georgia and Florida from the East.

Kentucky (Final Record: 6-6, 3-5 SEC)

@ Louisville – L (31-35)

Norfolk State – W (48-14)

Middle Tennessee – W (35-17)

Western Kentucky – W (28-13)

@ Alabama – L (17-24)

South Carolina – W (24-12)

Arkansas – L (10-21)

@ Florida – L (7-28)

@ Mississippi State – W (19-17)

Georgia – L (13-27)

Vanderbilt – L (14-17 OT)

@ Tennessee – W (14-28)

This will be an up-and-down year for Kentucky.  After starting of the season with a devastatingly close loss to their rival Louisville, they will come up with a big win over South Carolina to start off 4-2.  They will face a tough stretch at the end of the season and drop 4 of the last 6 with losses to Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt but clinch the season with a good win over Tennessee.

Georgia (Final Record: 10-2, 6-2 SEC)

Georgia Southern – W (53-7)

Central Michigan – W (38-3)

@ South Carolina – L (20-27)

@ Arizona State – W (33-24)

Alabama – W (23-7)

Tennessee – W (24-10)

Vanderbilt – W (34-7)

@ LSU – W (23-18)

Florida – W (27-21)

@ Kentucky – W (27-13)

@ Auburn – L (21-24 OT)

Georgia Tech – W (28-18)

The Bulldogs rely less on false hype to generate success this year as they are just plain better than most everyone they play.  After an early season slip-up against South Carolina, Georgia gets some steam going and gets back into the National Championship talk before suffering a very close overtime loss to Auburn.

Florida (Final Record: 10-2, 6-2 SEC)

Hawaii – W (41-21)

Miami (FL) – W (28-17)

@ Tennessee – L (14-20)

Ole Miss – W (33-7)

@ Arkansas – W (23-13)

LSU – W (27-21)

Kentucky – W (28-7)

@ Georgia – L (21-27)

@ Vanderbilt – W (31-13)

South Carolina – W (35-31)

Citadel – W (30-6)

@ Florida State – W (17-13)

Florida and Urban Meyer do the SEC proud in the opening week by separating the men from the boys in a beatdown of Hawaii.  Florida’s biggest win this year will be over LSU, and Tim Tebow will be a shoe-in for the Heisman since he can finally go a full regular season without having to deal with Tray Blackmon or Auburn’s defense.

Auburn (Final Record: 12-0, 8-0 SEC)

Louisiana-Monroe – W (34-6)

Southern Miss – W (23-13)

@ Mississippi State – W (28-17)

LSU – W (17-13)

Tennessee – W (31-28)

@ Vanderbilt – W (38-9)

Arkansas – W (27-13)

@ West Virginia – W (33-28)

@ Ole Miss – W (34-6)

Tennessee-Martin – W (41-13)

Georgia – W (24-21 OT)

@ Alabama – W (31-17)

Come on, like I would ever admit a defeat before the season even started?  What do you think I am, not stubborn?

Arkansas (Final Record: 6-6, 3-5 SEC)

Western Illinois – W (34-10)

Louisiana-Monroe – W (21-13)

@ Texas – L (18-27)

Alabama – W (21-17)

Florida – L (13-23)

@ Auburn – L (13-27)

@ Kentucky – W (10-21)

Ole Miss – L (17-24)

Tulsa – W (28-7)

@ South Carolina – L (14-27)

@ Mississippi State – W (21-18)

LSU – L (14-17)

Bobby Petrino won’t be receiving much mercy as the new Arkansas head coach.  Even though he’s completely evil, he fits right in with all the other evil coaches in the SEC (Miles, Saban, Nutt, Spurrier, Meyer…).  The SEC will welcome him back with a royal beating as he starts off the Razorbacks with a 6-6 effort.

Alabama (Final Record: 6-6, 3-5 SEC)

@ Clemson – L (14-33)

Tulane – W (28-13)

Western Kentucky – W (21-7)

@ Arkansas – L (17-21)

@ Georgia – L (7-23)

Kentucky – W (24-17)

Ole Miss – W (21-14)

@ Tennessee - L (17-21)

Arkansas State – W (31-14)

@ LSU – L (14-28)

Mississippi State – W (17-13)

Auburn – L (17-31)

I will give Alabama credit for not losing any completely embarrassing games this year, but they still aren’t ready to get any of the big wins they need to escape mediocrity.  This is not the year to open against Clemson.  Saban is once again going to have another rebuilding season before his freshmen class grows up and he abandon’s them to coach for the Atlanta Falcons.
